I stole away a few minutes for myself this evening. Easier said than done for a husband and father of three.bucks mill polo

Took some photos of our northeast earth emerging from Winter. I guess I'm as seasonally affected by the Old Man as the next REALTOR/frustrated writer.

Bucks Mill Park is more than a park to me.

It represents a "state" of Colts Neck before the township was discovered. The Colts Neck Polo Club competes at Bucks Mill. Our annual summer fair. Baseball teams and soccer clubs. Horse trails for equestrians. The occasional dog walker.

But most times Bucks Mill appears deserted.

There is a stillness in the ground, a rustling among the leaves. You can go to Bucks Mill to be alone, yet you're never far from home.

Enjoy the poem.

Enjoy the photos.

Enjoy loosening the Old Man's grip. barb wire colts neck

Spring will be here momentarily. One can't celebrate Spring without appreciating its stark-and-dark rival for our mood -- Winter.

Old Man Squared

Half-blind, I scalp the tundra grass of Winter's fallow ground with a broken spade

and so await your tendril fingers to

plunge into this lightless void.

Find me the rich rust peat.

I need all those roots and worms and grubs for a muddy elixirbucks mill colts neck

to drug me back to Summer,

to the Ocean

to the tides.

You are too late, Indian queen.

I calcify

until the brittle thorns of my own bones

barb hook the underside of my own skinbucks mill

like a whaler's ivory needle through a seal's black neck,

Gaffed and sewed.

A nostalgic skin -- the sheath of my cloistered young self --

I could not last out his Winter intact.

Betrayed by the Equinox,

deprived of your convalescence

Where once the burgeoning ground longed for my bare footprintgeese flying colts neck

I leave only a six minute shadow,

these murky eyes,

your clay-stained hands,

this restless earth that lures.

If anything I promise an entertaining cup of coffee!

Now that's a tag line!

You have some nice shots there.  I hope you got recharged during your quiet time.

My friend, this is why I know that whatever you do in life, success is yours to be had. Great job again.

Beautiful!  The poem, the pictures and the thoughts.  I live on Long Island and I know EXACTLY how you feel, I'm glad you have the talent to describe it.  Great job!

I'm jealous.  My daffs aren't budded yet.  Most of them are under snowdrifts!

So...you won't buy coffee for people unless they're buying or selling near you?  Isn't that discrimination?  Aren't we a protected group?

03/15/2008 06:22 PM by Karen Webster...Grand Rapids, MI Realtor (5 Star Real Estate, Grand Rapids MI)

Mmmm.  I have daffodils too but they're not blooming yet.  I can't wait.

As usual; very well written. I wish we had any winter at all this year. I think we had maybe ONE day that was actually cold.

03/15/2008 07:48 PM by Lisa Hill (Daytona Beach Real Estate) (Adams Cameron and Company)

I'll be out on Monday to take some pics when my Vermont clients arrive again to look at horse farms. There are already some flowers coming up here too. We had a couple of warm days this past week. Love the pictures!

I love running around taking photos in natural settings.  Right now you have to get the shot "just right" or it just looks dull and dreary. I have a few new ones of the Rockefeller preserve on a very sunny day that I have to find an excuse to post.  Yours are GREAT...they show the earth coming to life again.

03/15/2008 10:40 PM by Ruthmarie Hicks (Keller Williams Realty)

What is it about fences and fence posts that make them so photo worthy?  I love to take pictures of them a I've been trying to come up with an excuse to "post" them.

Pretty happy here in Scottsdale, Andrew, but I'll take you up on that entertaining cup of coffee one of these days.

Andrew ~ I think you've said it very well.  I also enjoyed looking at your accompanying pictures.  I am about done with winter - it definitely affects my mood at this point, and not in a good way!

Andrew - you are always amazing! I enjoy each and every one of your posts!

Andrew - Beautiful poem, Beautiful pictures. My daffodils are just starting to rise from the cold soil. Can't wait for them to bloom....now about that cup of coffee.....

03/16/2008 06:17 PM by Guilford Connecticut Real Estate Agent, Sandra Cummings (William Raveis Real Estate)

Melina, I try to provide some wholesome entertainment at the local coffee shop!

Danny, Thanks for the eloquent comment. It is deeply appreciated.

Kevin, Gee, can we wrap this Winter up already? I missed the snow -- at least it would have brought some variety, some pristine cover of white ground. This Winter struck me as monotonous.

Karen, I do not discriminate when providing services or real estate consulting. But yes, I have been known to extend a random act of kindness as I have often been a beneficiary of such kindness. :)

Lenn, this was the lone daffodill in a field about twenty fee into the woods. Odd location for such a cluster but it's God's canvas. He can paint it at His whim.

Lisa, Florida -- The Engima State.

Lizette, Better post those photos. I read your blog with Erby. That was fun and educational!

Ruthmarie, Well post your lovely photos already! I took some tonight of the Barnegat Bay while visiting my in-laws. Very blustery off the water.

Georgina, Why is everyone hordeing their photos? I believe Localism photos are the most unheralded form of consumer information. A picture is worth a ...

Slay, Let's meet half way so I can see you coming.

Kathy, I'm going off my kook.

Barb, You are always supportive and kind in your remarks. Happy Holidays to all!

Sandra, Up in your neck of the wood last weekend at Uncasville. I got lost in that damn casino for over an hour with a dead cell phone, separated from our party. Even saw a Raveis Real Estate sign on a local side road. You and Dan could have bought me a cup of coffee!

Andrew- As I try and write just a restaurant critique, I stumble for the words. Your writing truly inspires me and I wish I had an ounce of your literary talents. Great job as usual.

03/16/2008 11:01 PM by Mark Horan P.A. "The Resident Chef" at Keller Williams (The Resident Team at Keller Williams At-The-Lakes)

Mark, Let's conjure up some barter arrangement. I am useless in the kitchen. I can burn eggs. You cook. I'll write. Thanks for the encouraging comment.

You'll hear me coming, Lenza.  Or, if not me per say, you'll hear the sirens.

03/16/2008 11:20 PM by Paul Slaybaugh, Scottsdale AZ Real Estate (Realty Executives)

Andrew - "Lost" in the casino? First time I heard it explained that way...sure it wasn't the craps tables calling? As far as the coffee is concerned anytime.

03/17/2008 06:12 AM by Guilford Connecticut Real Estate Agent, Sandra Cummings (William Raveis Real Estate)

Lenza - You'd be hired in a Sardi second.  Have you published any books of poetry?

03/17/2008 03:37 PM by Jason Sardi, Pennsylvania Mortgage Broker (First Choice Equity Group Inc.)

Andrew- Enjoyed the poem and the photos. I also love your tag line! Very inviting:)

Andrew, very well done and said.  Having lived in Monmouth County for many years, before moving to Florida- I think you have captured it nicely.

Hi Andrew,
Enjoyed your poetry and photos, always wished I could write beautiful poetry but it just isn't in me or if it is, I can't coax it out.  :0)
