Ahhhh...the blogosphere. So many things to do, so many widgets to see, so many links to achieve, so many networks that be....But what about that little thing called time.
I am going to admit a dirty little secret, for the past few weeks I have developed blogging schizophrenia. If I could have cloned myself, it might have helped, but as that is not possible and the concept is a bit whacked, I needed to come up with a more reasonable plan.
Everytime I went to sit down and write, I would get halfway through my post and then something would happen. An email would pop up or a text message, something tempting and distracting enough to make me leave my post and check it out. Normally it would be an invitiation to another networking site, or an email from a real estate agent I am working with, or co-worker with a new idea or question.
And so I would stop blogging and start meandering. Next thing I knew, it was 30 minutes to an hour later, and my

blog post was still sitting there unfinished.
Well, I knew this had to change. Because once I meandered down one social networking path or brainstorming session, there always seemed to be many other distracting paths that cropped up in place of the first one. Before I knew it, the breadcrumb path back home had been ravaged by crows and I was inside the witch's house of confections, growing no closer to meeting my goals, but a lot closer to being pushed inside the burning oven.
So, I did something so simple. I created a goal post sheet in Google Docs. One side is labeled Priority and the other is Not a Priority. This spreadsheet is truly caveman in nature, but it does the trick. Now everytime I find something I want to check into, instead of being distracted and looking at it right away, or even worse, hitting the follow-up button in my Microsoft Outlook email program, I write it in my Goal Post sheet on the Not a Priority side.
If my priority tasks are complete, I get to go check out the latest and greatest in the blogosphere. If my priorities aren't complete, I don't. And because I created this sheet in Google Docs, it can travel with me everywhere my laptop goes.
I need a constant reminder. There are so many temptations.
My name is Rebecca Levinson, I had blogging schizophrenia, but am undergoing a successful treatment therapy. How 'bout you?
Rebecca,
With so much to do these days, it's hard to keep priorities in perspective! But trying something new is worth a shot!
