Superstorm Sandy

This morning, I woke up acutely aware of the 1st anniversary of Superstorm Sandy.

A year ago, today, the South Shore of Long Island and other NY, NJ & CT areas were devastated. By all accounts, families are still struggling to put the pieces of their lives back together.

We are lucky for the most part our homes are made of concrete block. Stick built and vinyl siding are no match for sustained winds. Hope things improve quicker at this point.

I still see some houses that have not yet been repaired. For the most part things look pretty normal up this way. I am sure though that I am just not seeing the basements of those that lost a ton and those houses and people that were devastated by the storm.

Good morning Jill. As the sun shines here, I too am well aware of what the Sandy Storm created and destroyed a year ago. Counting my blessings.

Jill, it does take time after these disasters. Our disaster in West, TX with the fertilizer plant from April explosion is similar, devastated lives way out into time. I hope the strengthen the area for future Sandy type storms.

The storm that this storm did was beyond belief. Some of the lives that we affected will never be the same again. There were many news programs showing some of the devastation when it was going on, pretty tough to watch.

Winston - I guess we learned that. Nobody ever thought...

Janis - For the most part, things look pretty normal here too. I think it's just certain areas like Long Beach, Lindenhurst, Mastic on LI and parts of Staten Island and NJ also.

Sheila - When the sun shines, it's impossible to believe things could be different.

Gary - They're working on it - it's a long process made even longer with tons of bureaucratic red tape.

Ron - It's lovely to hear from you. Thank you and be well.

Joe - News programs nonstop. The anniversaries always stir up memories.

Jill - I still have the photos taken after the firestorm in Palm Coast in 1998, and photos taken after the Hurricanes (4 of them one after another) of 2004

It is a powerful force...

Jill, it seems like it was yesterday that Sandy hit, and yet is seems like it was 10 years ago.

Jon - It's one of these experiences that divides. There's the time before and the time after the storm.

Mike - I know exactly what you mean.
