If you are planning to save some extra money, here are some useful tips for your financial reformation.

  • Prepare your monthly budget: If you are planning to achieve a financial goal, it is important to be aware of your expenses and opportunities to save money. For that, you would require a monthly budget. A budget helps you manage your expenses and cut down any excessive expenses easily. Make sure to include every bill despite of the amount and your mortgage repayments.
  • Avoid impulsive buying with a shopping list: All the major grocery chains tempt customers with their sequential arrangement and they make sure that the customer has to move through the mall to daily essentials like milk and toilet paper. It is best to go shopping with a list of items and stick to the list. It will cut down some unnecessary buying and might reduce gas cost by limiting your store visits.
  • Search for coupons: One of the best ways to save money is to collect coupons. You can find coupons in the newspaper and online coupon website. Use these coupons for all your purchases and compare market prices before shopping.
  • Take your lunch to office: A considerable amount of money is spent on eating outside. The idea of packing your lunch might sound overwhelming but it can add up to your savings quickly. You can eat healthy food and save money at the same time.
  • Avoid going for email deals and sale alerts: Email deals can tempt you into compulsive buying. Start by unsubscribing to the daily deals and sales alerts. It will cut down your unnecessary expenses and add to your savings.
  • Bike often to local places: When was the last time you used your bike? You can get in shape and save money by biking to the local places. However, make sure to stick with reasonable compromises instead of biking 10 miles to your office.
  • Choose Netflix/Hulu over cable TV: Do you need cable TV for your family? Most of the people use Hulu and Netflix for daily entertainment. It might be useful to unsubscribe from cable TV.
  • Save first approach: "Do not save what is left after spending, but spend what is left after saving" Warren Buffet. You can start a separate savings account or emergency fund to save money on a regular basis.

Anyone can adapt to the frugal style of living. Remember, frugal living is about spending less on things that does not matter much to you. Start by cultivating good habits for future and save money for rather important things!

I am saving a lot on my cell phone bill by switching from Verizon to VirginMobile.  I am saving on electricity by switching from incandescent bulbs to energy efficient CFL bulbs.  I have no subscription to cable TV or satellite TV.  I get lots of digital TV stations using an antenna in my garage.  I subscribe to NetFlix to watch movies.  I have no phone or fax land line, only cell phone and electronic fax.  When I need computer equipment, I buy used or refurbished equipment on eBay.  You can buy an extended warranty from SquareTrade.  I drive an older car that has been paid off for many years.
