Planning to vote in Mooresville?

You have until 1 p.m. this Saturday to do so.

Early voting for Mooresville’s board of commissioners races and Mooresville Graded School District Board of Education seats continues today through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Iredell County Board of Elections, 203 Stockton Street in downtown Statesville.

There will be no early voting on Monday.

There will be fewer polling places open on Tuesday due to the absence of state and national races, five locations instead of the usual eight.

  • Fieldstone Presbyterian Church (Coddle Creek 1 precinct)
  • Shepherds fire Department (Coddle Creek 2)
  • War Memorial Building (Coddle Creek 3)
  • Peninsula Baptist Church (Coddle Creek 4)
  • Rocky Mount United Methodist Church (Davidson Precinct 1A, 2A, 1B, 2B).

*Polling places will be open Nov. 5 from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.*

Early voting, which began Oct. 17, has been slow. As of Tuesday at 5 p.m., 40 people had cast ballots in the town board election. Absentee voting by mail ended Oct. 29.

Mooresville’s town board election features two contested races. Incumbent Ward 3 commissioner Mac Herring is facing challenger Frank Owens, and incumbent At-Large commissioner Rhett Dusenbury is running against challenger David Coble.

Mayor Miles Atkins and Ward 4 commissioner Lisa Qualls are unopposed in their re-election bids.

Also on the ballot are two candidates for two seats on the Mooresville Graded School District Board of Education. The candidates, Greg Whitfield and Leon Pridgen, will take the seats occupied by Karen Hart and Nancy Cross, who are not seeking reelection.
