 No One Likes Wasting Money

Toner cartridges for your printer are expensive. A full set of cartridges for my color printer runs close to $500. My black and white is about $80.

When the light flashes or you get a message on your printer or computer that the toner is "low," get out your credit card and prepare to spend around a hundred bucks.

Both new and older machines can be "rejuvenated" with refill kits.

Checkthe online store, www.tonerrefillkits.com , to see if a kit is available for your laser printer, plain paper fax machine (or multipurpose machine, or plain paper copier

Typically the only tool you need is a screwdriver and a sheet of newspaper.  Most toner cartridges can be refilled twice. The typical savings is about 50% -74% each time you refill. Refill instructions are included with the kit.

Anthony- This is a good tip...Once I got an online fax, and my Tablet PC I use way less paper, and haven't had to buy toner in quite awhile.

Personally, I hate it when my printer runs out of ink, and that's because I know I will have to go to the store to buy some more. LOL.

I know that a lot of the office supply stores are doing refills too.  I use the office printers for major print jobs and my home office printer for everything else.  Probably costs a little more from office charges, but it's divided up over time and I don't have to worry about running out! =)

I tried the inkjet refill kits but never much liked them.  Much to messy.  I am sure the fax is similar.

Gene,

inkjets are a pain and are not woth the effort. Toners are simpler and a greater cost savings.

Update,

I refill the black cartridge on my OKI today. It was quick and easy and took about five minutes including cleanup time (throwing the sheet of newspaper away)

My question is how does it print afterwards? I've used these refills on my xerox and they don't print as well as the originals from the company, have you had that problem?

12:27am • #11

Anthony,

I am sure that you have noticed that most printers today including the color printers are not as expensive as they were a few years ago.   The printer companies have come to the conclusion if they build a printer and sell it for about what the cartridge cost to change out less than three time.

Some of the manufactures have actual chips in the cartridge which really gets my crawl.   I know they want you to have a fresh cartridge for a given amount of time, the chip tells the printer that the time is up and even if you have never used the ink cartridge it will prevent the printer from printing.

Grab your wallet go down and get the new print cartidges since all of them were now out of date come back install them and now you are getting another error on the printer........ what the ...... now the printer is saying that the print heads are bad.   Now you have just bought a new printer but most don't realize this until they come home with the new print cartidges and now go out to buy the print heads which are about four times the price of the ink cartridges..... sure you can try to refill but wiith the chips.... and I am talking about HP products.....

I run a netowrk lazer printer printing black and white which has a toner cartridge, I can go along time, take the toner out give it a few shakes and walla I am back in the black.   My color printers are always wanting an new cartridge..... so you guest it my CMA are black and white, I have all my brochures professionally printed on quality paper with wax ink that does not run

Good post Anthony,,,,,,,, I appologize for getting carried away

Todd,

The quality is comparable. From my experience you should only refill a couple of times, then you will see noticable blemishes after that.

I currently use a samsung all in one for black and white printing and fax. I use an OKI for color printing.

Anthony, I have an OKI C3400n color laser printer, but didn't see it listed on the website.  Which OKI do you have? I would love to find a quality refill for it.

Joseph,

I have an OKI 5200n

and a  Samsung scx4216f )(all in one)

the kids use a lexmark optra E. That one has seen better days and is on its last lap.

Joseph,

After you search for your machine brand if it is not listed try the submit an unlisted machine link or you may search by cartridge number that may help.

Thanks Rod!  I am tired of spending all my hard earned money on toner for my two laser printers.  One is an HP and the other is a new all-in-one Samsung I just bought.

I checked out the site and didn't see my Samsung, but did submit "unlisted machine," so we'll see what happens.  As long it's not difficult to do as you say and not too messy because I do a lot of rush print jobs with my loan document signings and don't need the added stress.

Denise,

A small amount of toner usually to clean up with the included rag. That is why I use the newspaper. It works great for me because the stores no longer carry the cartridges for my samsung anyways and that machine is my workhorse.

Yup.. toner printer maybe expensive but as of today.. toner printer is the most purchase because  of its ease of use specially in refilling the cartridges...

Refilling a toner cartridge is quick and easy requiring no special skills. Toner cartridges have either a removable fill cap or you make a hole in the cartridge. If a hole is required we can provide the tool with your order. Detailed instructions and technical support are always provided. 100% satisfaction is guaranteed and we will always be there to help you with your questions.
Three easy steps to refill a cartridge:

1. Remove the fill cap or make a hole in the cartridge.

2. Using the refill funnel cap provided fill cartridge with toner through the hole.

3. Replace fill plug or seal hole with tape provided.

Done!

If you can, spend a little more up front and get a laserjet printer vs a cheaper inkjet.  The toner vs ink price per page will make up the difference in a year.

As well, I've been purchasing both my inkjet cartridges and toner on ebay.  They are refurbished, come with a warranty, and you don't have to waste your time refilling the ink when needed.  Well worth it.

Anthony,

I have been refilling my toner cartridges for about 5 years now. Generally cost me about $7.00 per refill and lasts around 3000 pages. Usually I can get at least three refills before I have to change cartridges.

I am bookmarking this website you have posted
in your blog...they have my old HP Lazerjet III listed.....

I have seen that I can save almost 50% over what I
would have paid to get the cartridges refilled at a store
in town.....

THANKS for the information!!

Another angle on buying toner cartridges is Ebay.

I've purchased new, HP brand toner cartridges for less than I can get the toner for. It just takes a few minutes to set up a notification for when the auction is close to the end.

Thanks for the post!

Unfortunately, only a small number of people consider the actual running costs of their printers at the time of purchase. These days the printer manufacturer will offer the printer as a commodity , more often or not as part of a PC sale and then looks to make the margins on the supplies themselves. It is important to look for the actual cost per page in order to draw a comparison as well as whether the supplies or even compatible supplies are readily available rather than being offered exclusively by one store.

Hi all,

Great post! I'd like to give you all an additional perspective.  The cost element is certainly key, but there are other factors including quality and durability of print.  Durability for my purposes would be how well the ink withstands fading, water, humidity, sunlight, etc.  Here, Kodak has a different story to tell than many of the printer manufacturers you all are using.  This is primarily because they use a dye based ink, which will not hold up to water and other conditions.

We believe that ink is too expensive, and agents should invest in their business, not in printer ink!  I encourage you to check out our new line of office All-in-One printers, the Kodak ESP 6150 and 9250, which have the lowest total ink replacement cost in the industry.*

For what it's worth, Kodak printer ink is $9.99 for a black cartridge (425 page yield*) and $17.99 for a color cartridge (420 page yield*) for most of our business class printers.

In addition to the ink savings, there are some other tangible benefits for you which Kodak uniquely has that would be good to consider:

1) Kodak ink is a patented, pigment based ink. This makes it water resistant and fade resistant.  You can literally print a listing brochure on plain paper or premium paper, and spray it with water.  It will not run!

2) Kodak's ink is also fade resistant.  Leave it in the sun for a few weeks and see, it won't fade on you.  Try that with another brand, and you'll see your print washout in a few days.

That's what I mean by durability.  You won't get that with a refill 3rd party in our inks, and thanks to our pricing you don't have to settle for that.  The average agent I know refills their ink twice per month.  At less than $30 to replace both cartidges, we have been able to reduce the yearly ink cost for many agents by $300-$400!!!  What could you do with that extra money?

We'll be coming up with more data for you to consider but we believe that our value proposition will greatly benefit the real estate agent on the cost and quality front.

For the record, here are some reasons why you wouldn't want to refill ink for general purposes:

http://www.myofficeportal.org/4-reasons-why-universal-refill-kits-just-do-not-cut-it.htm

This doesn't necessarily apply to all printers, and I realize that the argument cuts both ways when you factor in cost, however at least with Kodak I can say that whatever ink you refilled with, you would not only lose on the print quality, but you would also not get the water/fade resistance with the refill brand. For real estate agents using our printers to print photo quality flyers and save money, it would not be worth buying refills and dealing with that pain to lose the durability of the print.

Hope that helps and feel free to email us with questions!

*1) As compared to leading consumer inkjet printers‚ total ink load replacement costs using manufacturers' recommended standard ink cartridges available in single quantity pricing (i.e. no multi-packs, high capacity, combopacks, value packs or special promotions); excludes printers that use only one cartridge. Based on independent third party price survey data obtained June 2010. 2) Ink yield values obtained by continuous printing in accordancewith ISO/IEC 24711 (black text documents using ISO/IEC 19752 test target), utilizing KODAK All-in-One Printers. Actual results may vary. 3) Results based on continuous printing of black text documents in accordance withISO/IEC 24711 using ISO/IEC 19752 test target or Kodak testing methodology and mixed text and color graphics documents in accordance with ISO/IEC 24711 or Kodak testing methodology, with KODAK All-in-One Printersand standard cartridges. Actual results may vary. 4) Page yield comparison based on ISO/IEC 24711 using ISO/IEC 19752 test target or Kodak testing methodology, utilizing KODAK All-in-One Printers. Actual results mayvary. Thank you  for the ad kodak. But the article is about toner not ink. Not sure why anyone would leave printed items in the sun or pour water on them, but oh well some one find your ad useful so I will leave it up for a while.

Hi Anthony,

It's about rain, humidity and sunlight.  Many agents print their brochures and leave them at listings, in windows, in listing boxes, and in display windows at their offices.  If you live anywhere where there is a lot of sun, humidity and moisture, then your print will fade or will run when water hits it.

Try it! It's one of the main things about our ink that agents love..

If you are actually going to spend the money on the print with your printer for a listing brochure, factor in the cost:  5-15 cents per page for the paper you are using,  8-25 cents per page for the actual print itself, and then you print 50 of them to leave at a listing or put on a postcard to mail to the community.

That's a lot of money - and if they get destroyed due to any of the reasons I named above, then you are printing all over again.

Sorry - not meant to be an advertisement as much as a perspective on this subject - but there are more factors than just cost when discussing printing.
