Last Monday night, Oct. 28th, 2013, was our last class for oil painting at the Visual Arts Center in Richmond, VA. For approximately two months of Mondays we met for two and a half hours at approximately 6:30 PM in our art studio and painted a different still life every week.
Although I'm more experienced with painting in watercolor, oil painting did teach me more about color and moving paint differently. The one big benefit of oil painting is that it's considered "more forgiving" than watercolor, as an artist can easily paint over another layer---easily covering the layer below it.
If you've ever considered taking an art class and just have felt a bit hesitant, I highly recommend taking the plunge! Our painting instructor, David Tanner, happens to be very patient with students and works with various levels of ability from beginner to experienced oil painters. If interested in exploring art classes, just check online for art centers and instructors near you!
The following photos were taken during our final class.

Above is another great student example. This photo is the perspective of still life for me.
