Brokerage Roundtable - A three-day workshop that changed everything!

About two weeks ago I held a three-day Brokerage Workshop involving about 25 members of our Realtor community.  I've run a small, independent brokerage for four years and I've loved every minute of it.  But I like changing things up and taking inspiration from my interactions with other people.

One of the best things I did was hire a moderator to run each of the three meetings.  She's not a real estate professional.  In fact she' a pastor who really listens and can pull out divergent threads and common elements from conversations.  She kept us on time and on topic and let the conversation go places I might have stayed away from.  I didn't want to stay in areas I felt safe.  If the business was going to grow, I needed to be in places that didn't meet my comfort zone.

Day One was just me and my agents.  What's working.  What's not working.  Are we happy with our production numbers.  How much oversight do you want.  What technology and marketing areas do you need help with, etc.  Questions led to other answers and yet more questions.  The to-do list from that day is long but it's already reaping great results.  They were very frank with me and having our moderator their gave them permission to say more and share.

Day Two and Three were similar formats but were attended by real estate professionals outside my firm.   In two days 20 different people gave up four hours of their time to help me.  I was so honored. Questions likes "What's your perception of this brand", "What makes a good agent?", "What is something your broker gave you in the first two years that really helped".  Again, questions and answers overlapped and the moderator really helped pull a lot of information together while I madly scribbled notes.  The last question was "How can I help you acheive your next goal and grow your career".  I'm already working down that list too.

So, long story short, I got a HUGE shot in the arm and a lot of energy to take the company to the next level.  Watch this space.  Great things are coming!

Thanks for including me, Bob. I did not feel like I "gave up four hours" of my time. It was a fascinating process, great networking opportunity, and a unparalleled learning experience.

I'm right there with Lorrie - everyone who attended had something to gain.

It did not feel like a loss of 4 hours in any way.

I'm still marveling at the fact that you served a lunch that I could acutally eat and enjoyed - that never happens at these things!

Looking forward to see where you take your business.
