Winter Is In The Air In Northern Virginia Too.

The Handyman that helps me out has been working fevorously to get my property in order for winter.

Tonight will be in the high 20s boading ill for an early winter.  Weeds are gone, shrubs trimmed, grass has had it's last mowing.

I did get in a cord of firewood this morning too.  A former buyer has been cutting trees on her lot and gifted me with about 4 cords of split wood for the winter.

I'm never really ready for winter.  Don't like it at all, but we don't have the harsh winters that folks in ND do.

Darn - Winter is advancing in it's relentless journey to reside in North Idaho.

There's no use in thinking it's going to hold off and give me more time to finish the work I wanted to do outdoors. I'm about 3/5 of the way through "Putting the garden to bed" by cleaning out ALL the weeds and grass and covering the rows with plastic, landscaping cloth, or cardboard.

I've also been trying to add more organic materials to the newer end of the garden, where the clay soil still makes for tough digging.

But... my gardening time may be at an end until Spring. I may just have to be thankful for how much I got done. It was, after all, just an attempt to thwart the weeds and jump-start the work next year.

This morning we got up to this beautiful dusting on the hills above our meadow...

First snow in Blue Lake ValleyThe immediate forcast is for more rain - and that won't get me outside either!

So - my plan. I'm going to work like mad and try to be ahead in all of my projects. Then on the off chance that we get a day of sunshine, I can don my long johns and get outside.

One thing I don't enjoy is being cold - so thank goodness for plenty of warm clothing!
