The Iron Hill trail circles around a part of Lake Allatoona. This time of year is especially nice to walk this 3.5 mile trail. Yesterday the parking lot was nearly full of cars, but out on the trail I only saw people every now and again.
The trees are probably at or just past peak here on the trail. The yellow leaves yesterday were catching the sun and just blazing in color. The temperature was around 65 and there was a light wind blowing across the lake. My wife and I hiked this in about an hour and 15 minutes. We were slowed a bit by me stopping to take pictures now and again.
This trail is open until dusk every day and there is a $5 fee to park. The trail itself I would rate as easy as there are very few ups and downs, mostly flat trail with gravel. Bikers go clockwise around the trail while hikers go counter clockwise. This makes it easy to see the bikes coming.
If you are in the area of Woodstock and you are looking for something to do, go to Redtop Mountain state park and walk the Iron Hill trail. Especially now while the trees are at their finest!
