What just happened? said my buyer and I at the same time and as soon as we were a safe distance away from the house we were just looking at.
We barely had made our way into the kitchen when we heard screams coming from upstairs ... the bloody murder kind. Suddenly people were everywhere, some were standing around as if under the influence in a daze, others were running up and down the stairs and yelling to call the cops, to interfere, to make him stop ...
My buyer and I couldn't get out fast enough. What just happened? I have no idea. Who were all these people and where did they all suddenly come from? And why were they all inside the house that supposedly was OK to show?
I don't know. But what I do know is that this was a very uncomfortable situation for my client and I. I also know that the house won't sell. No house will - no matter how nice it looks - when it's impossible to show.
What just happened? is not the reaction I want from any buyer who toured one of my listings. I wouldn't want anyone to have to flee, to feel uncomfortable, to be in the midst of a potentially dangerous situation.
Selling a home is serious business and all parties involved should treat it as such. As a listing agent it is one of my responsibilities to advice the owner to not be present during showings . As a buyer's agent I hope to never again see a client of mine in such an uncomfortable situation.
What just happened? is one example of How Not To Sell Your Silver Spring, MD Home!
P.S. I did receive a call from the listing agent the next day. He informed me that nobody was seriously injured and asked if we would consider coming for another showing... Um, no, thank you.
