While we know that most of you may spend rainy winter mornings trying to avoid walking outside, our city does rank quite highly in terms of close access to all of the things most Seattle residents need.  Walk Score recently released their rankings for the Top 10 Most Walkable Cities, and Seattle came in at number 8.

Seattle Walkable City

The rankings came from a mix of data including an analysis of billions of walking routes, pedestrian friendliness, nearby amenities, mixed use neighborhoods, and the density of those components.  The new changes made big differences in neighborhoods that had previously been measured by proximity in a radius, as opposed to the actual available walking routes.

Seattle also had a number of "walker's paradise" neighborhoods singled out, including BelltownCapitol HillFirst HillDowntownLower Queen Anne, and South Lake Union, just to name a few.

The advantages and desirability of a walkable neighborhood seem to be more evident every year.  Walk Score's popularity has increased along with those consumer preferences, as the company has had a stunning amount of growth in recent years.  In just the past year, the number of websites displaying its products has more than doubled.  That's more good news for Seattle, as Walk Score is one of our beloved local tech companies.
