If you have just relocated or will be relocating to Camp Lejeune Marine Base in Jacksonville, North Carolina or recently bought a new home in Hubert N C,  I want to Welcome you to Onslow County and all it has to offer you and your family.

Once you get settled in, you will want to get out and begin exploring the area.  There are wonderful beaches (Onslow Beach and Hammock's Beach are two very popular ones) parks, local events and more that you and your family can and should enjoy this Spring and Summer.

Pine Knoll Shores NC AcquariumOne of the best  and most visited attractions is the North Carolina Aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores.

It is about an hour's drive from Jacksonville and approximately 35 minutes from Swansboro and Hubert N C.

The Aquarium has recently been renovated to the tune of $25 million dollars and expanded to  93,000 square feet of exhibits.

You can explore the 5 different galleries which feature aquatic animals and their habitats from the mountains to the sea of our diverse state of North Carolina.

The tanks and exhibits are educational, entertaining and fun.

Some of the most popular exhibits:

  • Touch tank - Visitors can touch and hold various sea animals.
  • Living shipwreck - See divers and ask them questions                                                 Ship wreck NC Acquarium
  • Otter exhibit - Everbody's favorite... watch the otters swim and play.

A personal tip from my own experience:    The otters do not wake up until about 11 AM.  I promise, it is true!

There are daily programs in the theaters at various times throughout the day as well as activities to participate in.

There many programs designed especially for children of all ages.  Check out the events and programs schedule.

You will not want to miss the two beautiful nature trails, the marsh overlook and the fossil hunt.  Just remember to pack your bug repellent, the insects can be annoying at times.

                                      "Nature Trails "                                                                                  NC Acquarium

It is, you should come for a visit...I think you would enjoy it.  Thank you for commenting.

Hello Jo,
I grew up less than a mile from the aquarium so we visited often but now it is so much bigger and better.  The otters are so entertaining.

Hello Carole,
Yes the aquarium is very busy in the summer, especially on holidays.  That's the beauty of living close by, you can choose to go when it is not as crowded.

Kimberly,
Now that would be fun!  I would show you around.

What a great get away for a rainy day. I like watching the sting rays try and splash someone as they swim around in the tank.

Hello Kathy,
We do get lots of tourist here, especially in the summer and they love the aquarium.  Hmm, don't know where the mall is with the circus, has to be a big city like Charlotte maybe?

03/31/2008 08:23 AM by Cynthia Tilghman, Realtor® Onslow County NC Home Specialist (Kingsbridge Realty, Inc)

Candy,
You would love this aquarium, it really is quite nice and there are so many wonderful, educational programs.

Hi Diane,
Hope you are enjoying your visit with your daughter.  Sea World is a great place to visit, I love watching the animals .  Thanks for taking the time to come by my post.

Hello Ginger,
I agree, we especially enjoy the "behind the scenes" programs.  I haven't been to Fort Fisher since it was renovated, I'm sure it is very nice too.  Thank you.

Cynthia.....  there seems to be a lot of activities in this area. Especially the wildlife and such, that I have always found interesting.  The Camden Aquarium here has a lot, which is interesting. I always liked the different kinds of sharks.
