Knock Me Out / The Smell of Curry in Charlotte, NC  Tips for Sellers

Today I was busy working with buyers and as I unlocked a house and we stepped inside we were almost knocked out by the smell of curry.  No matter what room we entered the odor was there.  It was definitely over-whelming and we finally had to leave.

The odor definitely helped to eliminate any interest by these buyers for this house.

After I got home I had to look up ways to rid a house of the odor from curry.

curry

Here is one suggested remedy...  How to get rid of the odor from curry.

  •

"Mix 3 cups white vinegar, 1 cup water and six cinnamon sticks in a large cooking pot.

Place the cooking pot on the stove-top and turn up the heat to bring the vinegar mixture to the boil.

  • Turn down the heat on the stove to allow the vinegar mix to simmer. Allow the vinegar mix to simmer for about four hours. The vinegar vapor will act as a natural cleaner and deodorizer, which will neutralize the curry odor on household surfaces and fabrics. Cinnamon sticks will produce an aroma similar to incense that will also neutralize curry odor.

  •

Mix 1 cup water, 2 tbsp. white vinegar in a clean container.

  •

Dip the absorbent cloth in the container and wring until damp.

  •

Wipe down surfaces and fabrics to remove the curry oil vapor.

  •

Ventilate the room by opening the windows and doors. Allow the surfaces and fabrics to thoroughly air dry."

Judith, I don't know how anything could possibly remove the smell of curry, it's almost as bad as cigarette smoke. I did take note of the remedy you've shared, Thank You!

Hi Beth, I had a seller who used the white vinegar in her garage to rid the smell of cigarettes and it worked.  This would be worth a try.  I agree with you ... not sure it would work.

Hi Pamela, I have had clients use the white vinegar to remedy cigarette odor and dog odor and have had success.

Although I like curry, I wouldn't want to smell it in a house I was previewing. That would be a turnoff.  I love the sound of your recipe.

From experience I can tell you that curry odor is sometimes impossible to remove from the house-because it is now is the hood/fan/ventilation system and the heating ducts.

Judith, it's a tough smell and very hard to remove. Maybe a double dose would work

Hi Debbie, I enjoy the smell of cinnamon and hopefully mixed with white vinegar it will help to absorb the curry smell.

Good evening Ed, someone may have to be boiling this mixture constantly to mask the odor.  Not sure but wishing those buyers the best of luck.
