Home Staging - It's All About The Visuals

home staging Long Island

It's one thing to talk about staging as a necessary step in the preparation of homes before they go on the market.  It is quite another to give sellers a visual of the remarkable difference a staging makes. We, as professionals recognize the dollar benefit it brings to the equation, but they may need more convincing.

If it is true that a picture is worth a thousand words, nothing more need be said.

Do you think that sometimes clients have no idea that they are living in chaos?  I couldn't think straight if there was a mountain of clutter staring at me every day.

I think most people don't really see their surroundings after living with it for a time, good or bad.  We take things for granted.  Even I, a very visual person, can't see what needs to be changed in my own home till I take a photograph of the room.  Then it stares me in the face and I know exactly what I have to do.

Geri - I think you and Liz are correct - people come to "tolerate" so much "stuff" in their life and their homes, that they don't see it anymore.  I think showing them pictures is a great way to "explain" it.

Geri, this is true for my home as well.  Late last year, we had our home appraised and while we did not stage it, we did remove the "clutter" and it made a dramatic difference.

You couldn't be more right. Only a before and after picture will cement the differences in their mind.

Did you ever fall in love with a piece of furniture or a piece of art, only to have it hanging there or sitting there a few years later, barely noticed.  I'm sure it's something we're all guilty of.

Teresa - When I have to take photos of my own home to notice the dysfunction, it says a lot.  I can walk into anybody else's house and know right away what small or not so small things they need to do to make a huge difference.  Photos, if people are honest with themselves, tell the story.

Kathy - Didn't you feel great when you removed the clutter.  I know every time I do it, I feel as if I can breathe.

Jill - The differences can be so dramatic.  People seem to get it when they see the pictures, or the shows on television.

Thanks for some great visuals to show the changes. It's easy to get inured to personal clutter-until you see the pictures.

It's amazing how people do not realize that times have changed. We deal with many in older 55+ communities who still think that avacado green and harvest gold with linoleum floors is still in style!
