What To Do To Sell Your Home - Choose a Realtor

Congratulations!  You have made the decision to sell your home.  You may have even spotted the next home you'd like to purchase.  Quick! What's the first thing you should do?  Interview a Realtor or two!
 
Over the next few Tuesdays, I'll be giving tips on how to earn the most out of the sale of your home in the shortest amount of time.  These are not things you have to do, but any Realtor with your best interests in mind will agree these can make or break the sale of your home.  I like to think of it as a "set it and forget it" approach.  Prepare properly and let your Realtor take it from there (provided you do step one from today...)
When you agree to let a real estate agent/broker list your home you enter into a partnership, one that will be filled with honest answers/suggestions and possibly some tough love.  This partnership is a support system that will guide you through the real estate process including things like: finding your magic number & pricing it right, making sure you are or help you “be ready” to let go of your house, get your house ready and holding your hand through the whole process.  You should be willing to listen and work with your agent just as much as they will be ready & willing to work with you.  Once you have fully accepted the partnership amazing things can and will happen =)
 
What should you look for in a real estate agent?  Three key traits I pride myself in and think sellers should look for in an agent are knowledge, communication and customer service.
  • Knowledge: It's not about simply knowing real estate in general or the current market and your neighborhood, but wanting to know more.  Skilled agents are continually learning and growing themselves to serve you better.
  • Communication & Customer Service skills go hand in hand.  Poor communication leads to poor customer service.  A great agent keeps you updated regularly and is available to you & your questions.

Don't let your search be limited to these traits.  You are hiring that agent to represent you and your home.  You should partner with someone who truly has your best interest in mind & understands your needs/wants/values.
