Montrose Colorado Biking/Walking River Trail.
Here you will find some maps and photos of the biking and walking trails around the Montrose Ridgway areas.
I have personally rode these trails myself. Finding maps of these trails I found to be next to impossible, so I have provided maps here. The distances were calculated by using the ibike app that you can download for free on your iphone from the app store. Whether you are biking, walking, running it tells you how far you have gone, the amount of calories you have used. You can upgrade the app and it will provide you with a lot more information.
The best place to start the river trail in Montrose in my opinion is to park at the trailhead at the West Main St Bridge parking lot. From there following the concrete path along the river, through Baldridge Park, up to Rio Grand Ave, then cross Oak Grove Rd, follow the path along the river, across Chipeta Rd, all the way out to the cemetary on HWY 550 south of town. One way that distance is 4.5 miles.
The round trip of 9 miles on a bike takes around 50 minutes to an hour depending on your speed.
That part of the trail heading south has an elevation gain of 400 feet, so on the return trip it is downhill. It doesn't appear that way when you ride it, but you can feel the difference.
There are other parking areas along the route, if you want to do a walk that is less distance. You can park at the corner of Oak Grove Rd and Rio Grand Ave. There are some parking spaces where the trail cross's Chipeta Rd, you could park in Baldridge Park.
There are some other trails that take off from the main trail that you could also take. By the footbridge in Baldridge Park the path goes up the hill to the soccer fields on Sunset Mesa. Also by the footbridge the path goes north towards the dog park and winds its way up behind some industrial buildings to the Swimming pool. See the map for details.
