Respect the Real Estate Industry

ActiveRain is a place where real estate professionals can network with their peers and discuss industry insider topics. It is also a public forum where consumers can pull back the curtain and see what the real estate industry is really about.

Because of this level of transparency and openness, ActiveRain members must remain zealous in their quest to represent our industry in as true and professional of a light as possible.

Respect the ActiveRain Community

Being a part of any community requires a certain level of trust. Don't abuse the site or your fellow members. By joining the ActiveRain community you are given a platform to present your ideas and opinions to a large number of people. We trust you to be responsible with that platform; thousands of other ActiveRain members are also counting on your trustworthiness.

Please take these rules seriously. Don't try to look for loopholes or ways around them; please take them to heart and try to respect the spirit in which they were created. We administrate this community using logic and common sense, and we will give greatest regard to the intention of the rule. If we decide to terminate your account as a result of a violation of these Community Guidelines, you will be prohibited from ever signing up for another account!

We Review Content Flagged As Inappropriate

When content on ActiveRain is flagged as inappropriate, we will review the content to determine whether or not it violates our community guidelines. If we remove content after reviewing it, you should assume that we removed it purposefully, and you should take our warning email seriously.

ActiveRain is built for Community

We built ActiveRain as a place for real estate professional to network and create a sense of community/belonging. This is your community! It is our members that ActiveRain a special place.

  • Have fun with the site. Don't be afraid to dig in! There's a lot to do and learn here.
  • Let ActiveRain staff and other members know what you are thinking. Member feedback is essential to our continued growth and development
  • Get connected. At first ActiveRain may seem, both at the same time; so big that you could never be heard, and so small and cliquish that you will never be a part of it. Everyone experiences this phenomenon. Our suggestion is to start off slow; read blogs, then start commenting on posts that interest you, and once you feel ready, blog away!

Rich: The guideline re-view is always appreciated. Keep up the good work. This is a fine community due in large part to its mission, members and good guidelines. I think Robert Frost once said "Good guidelines make good neighbors."

Rich  - I think you are doing a great job as "employee #10" :)  Thanks for bringing these up.

Rich, good to see you pop up on the radar.... I couldn't resist saying hi before I went to bed.  The way I look at it is we have the "Respect" police on AR. On my work website, I have the bank police, at home I got people (more police).  Hey, most of the people I see abuse AR are the Newbies and the people who join, do not post, do not visit there site very often and when the do, they spam.  By the way, I have been getting calls by non-AR people who have contacted me for referrals but refer to AR.  in the last 2 months, 2 Credit companies. Take care my friend.  AJ

We all need to see this from time to time so that remains fresh in our minds. Thanks for the reminder.

I started to ask if you would please make that last link BOLD - but then I realized I feel the same about ALL of them.  New users should be blocked from joining until the read and comment on each of those posts.  LOL.

Question:  I remember learning somewhere that comments have to be at least 10 words and posts have to be at least 200 words to count for points...  Is this true?  If so, is that in the guideines anywhere?

Rich - Thanks for the reminder.  We all need a refresher course once in a while.

03/16/2008 08:34 AM by Twin Cities Minnesota Real Estate - Marzena Melby (Counselor Realty, Inc.)

Thanks for the reminder, Rich. I think that sometimes we get our brains so full of other thoughts and information that we purge some of the important stuff. That or we blog and comment before we've had enough coffee. lol

You seem to have a theme going here.  Excellent words of wisdom.

03/16/2008 09:12 AM by Linda Davis (RE/MAX Realty Group)

Thanks, Rich - we all can use a refresher from time to time!  We do need to be careful in that the public sees us in a more interactive, one on one format......if you don't have something nice to say.......:)

Good job, Rich. Excellent reminders, I wish all the new people had to read the Guidelines and check they had read them before jumping in. It would be so much easier. I think most mistakes are made when you first start, I know I made a bundle of them. When I try to explain to someone about blogging here, it just is too much to explain in one phone call. I think I overwhelm them, because a 15 month education can not be taught in one phone call.

A lot of people here don't seem to care about the rules.  It is a blog they put stuff onto and never look back.

Rich - "Let ActiveRain staff and other members know what you are thinking."  I'll have to work on that...

Rich your doing a great job off reminding everyone of how things work around here - keep the great tutorials I am sure they are helpful especially to those who are new here.

03/16/2008 11:10 AM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Rich....  the problem that I have with a post such as this one is that those that do follow the rules usually are the ones that read these.  lol  Those that don't play nice and such, usually don't read this. Or if they do, they just ignore it. I agree with someone's comment, that it is a good reminder from time to time.

Rich,

You could post this once a week and there would still be violations...Active Rain is more respectful than the general population, but even here insensitivities are evident!!! Thanks,   Fran
