Millburn Free Public Library's 75th Anniversary CelebrationMichael Banick, the library's director said “This will be our reintroduction in a way. It will be a reconnection with the community, and a demonstration of the library as more than just the traditional idea of the books and DVDs and computer resources, but that it can serve as a community hub, and a place for cultural programs and entertainment and for connecting with friends and with ideas and with various resources.”

The Millburn Free Public Library’s 75th Anniversary Celebration will begin with a re-dedication ceremony and the awarding of prizes to the winners of the library’s elementary school art contest. Mayor Sandra Haimoff will do the first children’s reading of the day. Live musical performances, including a concert in the upstairs auditorium by guitarist Spook Handy, as well as a special surprise performance on the library balcony will be part of the celebration.

Bestselling author Beatriz Williams will talk about her book, “A Hundred Summers,” in the auditorium at 1:45 p.m. She will also answer questions and be available for book signings and sales at a kiosk set up by Words Bookstore of Maplewood.

A display outlining the library’s history will be on display throughout the day, along with entries in the school art contest. There will be living storybook characters walking around, Millburn Middle School students will give anime classes, do caricatures and still sketches, and many raffle prizes will be given away every hour.

“The day will pay homage to our past, and then transition into the vision as the Library as a community hub,” Banick said. “We can still be your resource for literature and reference questions, but it also a new and exciting place where you might find the unexpected. We have special programs and e-books to download. This is a relevant place in the 21st century, just as important as it was before.”

Banick concluded, “It’s not just about knowing what’s going on at the library, but if people can look at that and feel a sense of pride about their library and their community, then it will have been a job well done.”

The Millburn Free Public Library’s 75th Anniversary Celebration will also include lunch for all attendees and a ceremonial Anniversary Cake.

We hope Millburn residents have a fun, enriching experience this weekend at the Millburn Free Public Library’s 75th Anniversary Celebration!
