I had to smile as I read a November, 2013 report from NAR entitled, “REALTORS® Report Americans Prefer to Live in Mixed-Use, Walkable Communities”-- You know, here in Asheville, we have been saying this for at least a decade…And I am excited about that! In fact, looking back over the past number of years, you would see that expressed in any number of posts I've written on walkable communities here in Asheville.
Here are interesting notes about how everyone can benefit (think of the benefit, for example for those people who desire to "age-in-place" in a lifelong home) ) when investing in walkable communities—as per:

Does this mean sustainable excellence is going mainstream? Here are three points that may indicate that trend.
1. According to this NAR article, 60 percent of respondents prefer a “ mix of houses and stores and other businesses that are easy to walk to, rather than neighborhoods that require more driving between home, work and recreation.”
2. Respondents (78%!) say that the neighborhood is more important to them than the size of the house, and that they like the idea of living “ within walking distance of schools, stores and restaurants as opposed to having larger yard and needing to drive to get to schools, stores and restaurants.”
3. Of special interest to our colleagues here at Active Rain is this: “REALTORS® build communities and care about improving those communities through smart growth initiatives.”
