Why Did the Land or Sea Turtle Cross the Road?

Turtles are Fabulous!  Big or small, Sea Turtles or Land Tortoises...I don't care!  They are wonderful and I love them!

Yesterday when I was heading over to show property to a couple of Buyers, I turned a corner and saw the tell tale sign.  Yup, a turtle crossing the road.  This happens on the Space Coast quite often, usually with gopher tortoises.  When I see them I always stop the car and move the slow reptile to the other side of the road so it doesn't get hurt.

Yesterday as I was driving I saw this beautiful boy smack in the middle of the road.  I stopped and jumped out and picked him up.  He immediately withdrew into his shell and closed  up tight.  I don't think that I had every seen a turtle that had prettier markings.  We were in a busy area, so I decided to move him to a lower traffic area of the street for his own safety.  I put him on the seat next to me and he pretty much immediately started cruising around the inside of the car checking things out.  He even crawled up onto my lap!  By the time I put him out in a lovely park with water close by I was really sorry to say goodbye to my sweet friend.  He knew I had no interest in harming him and I really hope that I see him again.  Turtles are the best!

Kerry, having a turtle climb up on my lap would be quite the joy!    Nice of you to keep this turtle from potential harm traveling across a busy street!

Joan, initially this little guy had his shell closed up tight.  I was kind of surprised how quickly he came out and interacted with me.  He seemed to like having his chin tickled.
