Don't give us FREE Healthcare...

We don't want a free "lunch". We want a good, affordable 'lunch"!

(I realize that this may cause a little controversy, but I got to get it off my chest.)

I am sick and tired of insured pundits publicly arguing about how great is our healthcare system! The health insurance options for the self employed are just horrible. For the same monthly premium that an employee of a large corporation can get fully insured with negligible co-pays, a self employed REALTOR like myself gets a $5,000 deductible and coverage on just 60% of what's left. So, either I'm better off self insuring, or I got to have a real major problem to make my insurance worthwhile.

Let's do the math on that for a second:

Say I have an appendectomy about 18 months after I get insured which will set me back about $25,000. According to the best option that I have found after 3 months of hard research, I would have to pay the first $5,000 (as a deductible) and then the insurance would cover 60% of the difference, which means I would have to pay an additional $8,000. Add to that my premium for the past 18 months @ $350/mo ($6,300)  and you get about $20,000.

Ladies and Gentlemen. That's SELF INSURANCE!!

So:

REPUBLICANS, don't tell us our healthcare system is already GREAT.

DEMOCRATS, don't tell us healthcare will be FREE.

I don't want free. I want good quality insurance for an affordable price...

Like a corporate employee. Or a congressman.

AMEN.  Even though my health care is affordable (Kaiser), it isn't quality.

Good post.  I am glad I am covered under my wife's plan because it is rediculous!
