Being Rather Than Doing; The real estate professional

By
Real Estate Agent with YourStories Realty Group MA# 9517963

Being Rather Than Doing; The real estate professional and their time blocked behaviors can hinder your growth.  Let me explain.  I am a huge fan of time blocking. Time blocking has been how I have accomplished much in my life.  I need to prospect and so I time block that. I join a program called BOLD that demands we make 20 connections in a day, 100 in a week. This is time blocking on steroids and you are held accountable.  All this drives more business, more opportunity, more knowledge and more activity, right?  Yes, right.  That is good, right?  Yes, all those things are good.

 Gary Keller talks Success

I have spent a good deal of time looking at those I want to be like. The successful agent who has 20-50 listings at all times, the Realtor® who can balance life and work are folks I search out and ask questions.  I started this career after two other successful careers and know from them the path to success is in understanding the successful.  For quite some time, 3 years and counting, I have been mirroring and matching those people believing that the closer I I can mirror the more the reflection would be me.  This logic is good, but the assumption negates what makes me be me.

I now realize that the things these successful agents do everyday is not why they are so successful.  They are successful because of who they are.  I was given a book by one of these successes and it has opened up my thinking. Getting Over The Habit of Being Yourself, by Dr Joe Dispenza helps you understand that there is a difference between Newtonian Physics where cause and effect rule all actions and Quantum Physics where YOU can cause the EFFECT.  It is about being what you want, not about doing the things that others have done to be who they are.  It is coming from a place of contribution each and every day.  I just wanted to share this with you today because I know there are others out there just waiting to hear this as I was.  Go out there today and know that who you are is more than enough to be who you want to be.  Think, Do, Be is the order for this mindset, and I find that I spend far more time focusing on who I want to be than the tasks that take me there. Go out and make today your best day, you may already be the winner you want to be.

Larry, this reminds me of the old "be, do, have" principle--most people want i the other way around--hence misery.

Larry, excellent thought provoking post. Every agent should try to achieve their goals. Along the way of trying to accomplish large goals, I know I've learned from it.

Very well stated Larry.  People like me or don't.  I am a "success" to me and to my son and that's all that matters.  My material wants/needs are met everyday and that's a blessing I don't take for granted and give thanks everyday!

Hi Larry. Sometimes we want to be like others which implies we do not want to be ourselves. It's great to be ourselves.

Stop trying to be someone else and be yourself since you are unique! I agree that certain characteristics are important but be yourself.

That gets back to the DISC profile and your actual personality versus the one you display in public. The more divergent they are, the more discord you are causing in your life. Be yourself.

Your success is not watching others and doing cover songs. It's eyes on your own paper, belief in yourself, hard work, creative spirit and positive thinking that causes you to do such a good job at anything in life. That others around you can not help but notice and rise you above the herd of ho hum, same old same old standard fare list, market, sell (repeat).

"I listen for a living." It's all about you.

Richie, constant and never ending improvement was a Japanese strategy many years ago and we adapt that thinking all the time.  I am working on the mindset part. Thanks for your comment.

@Andrew  When you are new (which I am no longer) it is a good tactic to pay attention to those who are very successful.  The goal is to not be them, but to take from them the best that applies to you and your own skills. Thanks for your thoughts, as always.

@Scott, I don't ofter recommend books, but this one is really working for me. It is not feel good, it is not strategy, it is the science of the mind and that I like.  Happy Reading.

@Aaron, So right, if there is a disconnect in any aspect of your life and your work, you will have difficulty. Thanks for pointing that out.

@Lori, Yes, me too. I want balance as well and have always worked for that equilibrium.

@Laura  nice addage.  I want to be the person who does what is right by fully embracing the right thinking. Thanks for stopping by.

@Praful, BOLD is a great, but I am also loving the mindset part which I am getting from the Dispenza book.  Milford is an hour from me, and I will try to make it.  That takes two hours out just in travel in the middle of the day.  I will see how it goes. Thanks for putting it together.

@Gerard Being yourself is not always easy, the book discusses that separation.  Great advice, be yourself.

@Catherine, it is a good book, but you can't ride your horse and read it at the same time. You will have to get the audio version. hehe.

@Lana, Yes bing yourself can be a good thing unless you use that excuse to do stupid things and people make excuses by saying that is just me being me, don't you think?

@Carla, living in Gratitude is a powerful state. Congratulations.

@Kelly, thank you for your kind words.

@Pamela, Without a goal and no road map you are no where. Thanks for your comments.

@Paula, I am in and out these days as well, but whenever I have a breakthrough in thinking my first thought is to share it here.  Great to see you.

@Evelyn  Thanks for being YOU.  I appreciate your comment.

@Marc,  I am not a believer in hard work. I love what I do and so I don't feel as though it is work most of the time.

@Charles, yes Think, Do, Be is another way.  Thanks for stopping by.

@Ralph, Active Rain is the first place I think to post my breakthroughs. Thanks for your comment.

@Wow Laura, that is awesome and good for you.  My average price point is a bit north of $800,000 but that is because I live in the third most expensive area in the country.  Boston Strong has so many meanings.

@Tammie, I would certainly never criticize anyone who has a plan and sticks to it. Congratulations on all that you accomplish, keep up the great work.

"I listen for a living." It's all about you.

@Brad, Let me know how the book changes your life. I would love to share thoughts at that time. Thanks for your comments.

@Larry you are right, there can be no disconnect. People, in my opinion, work with people the like and trust, period. It is not about the agency and often not about the skill or plan, but always about the trust.

@Debbie, I can get you into the first of the 8 week course for free as my guest. This gives you an overview of the whole program. It is open to all agents. Let me know if you would like a try with no obligation of any kind.

@Diane, let me know what you think once you get the book, I would love to compare notes.
