A good deed always feels good!

Fall leaves are very pretty.  But, like the ones on this tree will soon be on the ground.

That is a fact for where I live.

My wife told me of someone we know, not well, but is elderly.  She was unable to do her fall yard work of getting the leaves picked up.

My wife and I are most always ready to give someone a helping hand.  This lady did need it and so we popped on over to her place and For the next 4 hours we cleaned up the leaves in her yard.

She was so happy that she had tears in her eyes.

She wanted to pay us, but it would no longer be a good deed.

For some people, helping others allover the world is their thing.  For my wife and I, we help people in our own area that need help.   I am not putting down the globe workers, it is just you don't need to go far to do a good deed.

I think it's great you are helping out in your own little corner of the world? I try to do what I can around here. I've now taken to watching The Broncos games with an elderly person that doesn't get out much and have many visitors. It really makes her Sunday.

I love the picture you used.

Bill, that's what good neighbors and people with a kind heart do!  I feel the same way about helping those in your own back yard.  I remember once when I was a kid about 8 years old (yes I can remember that far back), it was winter in Kansas City, MO.  I used to shovel snow for about 50 cents a drive and walk way.  I went to a lady's house and she said she couldn't pay me, but about 10 or 15 cents.  So, I told her I would do it.  That was the hardest drive I ever did.  There was an inch or two of ice below the snow and I got it all cleared for her...I think I was there all day.  Anyway, when I was finished I knocked on the door to tell her I was finished and that she could pay me later.  I never went back for the 15 cents...it's a good feeling that's stayed with me all these years.

There's a reason for that old saying: "Charity begins at home." And it DOES give as much to the giver as the recipient to know that what you did or gave made  difference to someone.

I've quit giving to national charities - I'd rather give to those that are run by volunteers or modestly paid employees. Looking at the big salaries of directors in say, the Red Cross, makes me keep my money at home.
