It's Small Business Saturday in Delray Beach-Saturday, November 30, 2013!

Small Business Saturday in Delray Beach is Saturday, November 30, 2013!

Since 2010, American Express has worked hard to promote the small Small Business Saturdaybusinesses that are such an important part of our towns and communities.

Traditionally held on the Saturday following Thanksgiving, this is the ideal opportunity to avoid the crowds at all of the big box stores.

** Register to receive a $10 credit on your American express card!**

Beginning November 24 at 12:00 AM (MST) you can register your American Express card to receive a $10statement credit when you purchase $10 or more in a single transaction.  The number of enrollments is limited to set your watches!!

Studies have shown that small businesses are important to the community.  Fifty+ percent of monies spent at small local business stays in the community.  When we spend at the big box stores or the Internet… that money is going out of the community.

Conversely, your local business usually lives in the area, and in turn purchases locally as well.  Money keeps flowing within the community.

In Delray Beach, our downtown merchants and small businesses are celebrating SHOP SMALL all month.  You can check here for a list of participating shops.

Remember…. the next time you’re looking for a special gift, or a place for dinner, think about your local businesses.

The nice thing about using local vendors is that once you use their services and they know you, they are completely reliable and provide superior service.

My pest inspector gave my home a quarterly check-up yesterday.  I do it quarterly because I'm in an area of he healthiest mice population on the planet.

Now I don't have to think about it.

One of my favorite shopping days. I wish they would include business that offer services as well. National franchises and comoanies are taking over the service industry and us local service providers need support too. Like the florist, barber, hair stylist, printer, restaurant and yes, us local home town Real Estate agents need support too...

Good morning Kathy.  Good for you in getting this information out there.  I'm all for shopping, working with the small businesses.  We will soon be having the same in our area and we will be strolling the streets of Nob Hill looking for bargains and enjoying the feel of the smaller businesses.

Gabe- you make a very good point... they are our neighbors and friends.

BARFF- I know you do!

Lenn- that's very true.  What you need is a big cat to control your mice.... I can send yo a bobcat from Green Cay here.

Marco- I think many of us do!  Thanks for supporting them.

Michael- If we don't support them, our communities become nothing but big box stores.

scott- We try to go to the local Ace Hardware, which I know is a chain but no where near the size of the big boys.

Kathy,

I was thinking of writing about this also, and thank you for doing it.  I think the commercials they have done for it this year are really good and explain the mission well. A

So true Cathy. I am also guilty in trying out big businesses that I see on commercials but I always go back to those local ones that I've gotten used to.

Kathy, I am a big believer in shopping with our local business folks, the service is always superior, and we get to know them.  One couple I know meets their family members at the same restaurant each Thursday, and WOW, do they get special service.  The owner often sits a few minute to chat with them, and he always seats them at their favorite table, saying "the usual", an reply of course it is.

I try to avoid the big box places if at all possible.
