It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just a week away!  Chances are you’re ready for the much needed break and time spent with family and friends.  Yet, with the busy schedule leading up to the holiday season, and even continuing throughout, it can be hard to take time out to think through all the things for which you’re thankful.

Of course it can be easy to think of a list off the top of your head.  Things such as family, health and friends are some of the first things that will come to mind.  But, what about your work?  While you may enjoy what you do, the constant attention, demanding clients, and an overwhelming list of things to do can make you feel it’s the last thing on your “what I’m thankful for” list.

Here are five simple ways to get in the right mindset this Thanksgiving and find a renewed passion for your work!

1. Focus on the Present.  It’s so easy to get caught up in what the future may hold that we begin to worry about its outcome.  While it’s wise to have plans and systems in place to know where you want to go, stressing out about what could happen is one of the quickest ways to ruin the love of your job.

2. Think Positively.  Remaining positive in a situation can instantly improve your mood and allow you to think more clearly about your work.  Nearly every situation provides you with an opportunity to look at it negatively or positively.  Choose to be positive.  If you allow yourself to go down the negative path, it’s a slippery slope of beginning to see everything in that light.  Whenever you find yourself focusing on the negative, replace it with a positive thought.  This will give you a renewed energy and appreciation for your daily work.

3. Give Back.  This seems to be a mantra we hear most often around the holidays, but it can be true all year long. Whether it’s volunteering within the community or helping your team improve their work skills or being a mentor, giving of yourself can be a quick path to inner joy and appreciation for the world around you.

4. Get Away.  It can be easy as a real estate agent or broker who’s running a companyto be completely work focused.  You feel the weight of your business succeeding on your shoulders and it can be hard to want to take a breather from it all.  Yet, taking a day or two (or three!) to get away this holiday season can be just the thing to rejuvenate you and keep your passion going for what you love to do!  Even if you’re not going out of town, getting away from work to take a break with family and friends is necessary, and the holidays are a great time to do so!

5. Write It Down.  Keeping a journal, whether with pen and paper or online, is a great way to stay focused on what you’re thankful for.  Take ten minutes within the next week to sit down and make a list of things you appreciate in your life.  You’re not only taking time to recognize them, but you’re also giving yourself an opportunity to focus on what you appreciate about each item.  This spirit of gratitude will carry over into every aspect of your life!

We hope you have the chance to take a break over the next week and have the opportunity to reflect on everything for which you have to be thankful!

Have a great Thanksgiving!
