solar shedSeattle gardening and storage issues....

Our garage was overflowing and at the same time I have been nagging my hubby for a greenhouse for years!  I have always wanted to grow my tomatoes in a really hot spot and my back deck was only hot long enough to tease me with a few.  My Southern upbringing has never been enough to tempt me into cooking or eating fried green tomatoes, so a greenhouse seemed like an obvious choice.  I am not a serious gardener, however, and a giant greenhouse would probably a bit wasted on me.

A solution?

I have to give hubby credit for this one - he found it on HomeDepot.com and it has been the perfect solution for us!  It is a solar shed - part shed - part greenhouse with half of it made of a window roof and the other half just shed, my plants are happy and the garage is roomy.  Home Depot actually had quite a bit online as far as shed options or greenhouse options, but this is the only product I saw that combined both.  I like it!  You can buy it in an 8 x 10 foot solution or an 8 x 12 foot format.  We have the 8 x 10 and it works well for us.  Prices start in the $1500 range and go up for there.  It is a kit and must be assembled, but didn't take long even for us.

Move up Seattle buyers and other types of specialized purchasing is a great passion of mine!  I love Seattle houseboats and you can find me down on the docks of Lake Union and Portage Bay several times a week.   Other aspects of Seattle real estate that I adore include Queen Anne Real Estate,Wallingford Real EstateBallard Real EstateGreen Lake Real EstateLaurelhurst Real EstateMagnolia Real Estate, andSeattle Waterfront Real Estate.

In addition to being a Seattle residential broker and founder of Cooper Jacobs & Seattle Afloat, I am also a member of CBA (Commercial Brokers Association) and head of the Cooper Jacobs Commercial Division in an effort to provide excellent commercial real estate services to the Seattle commercial real estate industry.  With a background in accounting and management, it is my great pleasure to coordinate our Seattle commercial brokers.

This is pretty cool, Courtney. I just finished tearing out half my deck, replacing some of it and painting it. As a result, I now have to paint my greenhouse. You know how things start talking to you the minute you spruce up something, right? It's a really old greenhouse, and probably on its last legs. So, just as I was wondering whether it makes sense to paint it or replace it, here you are with a fabulous solution! OK, I will probably still paint it to see how much more life it's got, but after that, when it absolutely must be torn down, it's nice to know there is an inexpensive alternative out there.

Although, I have to say, it's always hot enough in Sacramento to grow tomatoes. :)

Courtney, I didn't know you are from the south, where?  I was born just north of atlanta!  And by the way?  Any green tomatoes you don't want?  I'll take them!

Hi Elizabeth - yes Sacramento would be warm enough!  It gets warm enough here - I just never seem to start my plants on time and it isn't warm enough for long enough!

Marlene - I grew up in Pascagoula, MS  - until 7th grade with a brief two year stint in Houston in 3rd & 4th Grade...  Then it was on to San Fran until I made my own living choices and came up here in 1990:)  You can have your green tomoatoes, babe - I will can them and send them over the pond to ya - or better yet drop them off on my way to Ocean Shores via "the back way" :)
