Do you find yourself complaining or trying to fix a complaint?  My husband use to tell me, "If you're going to complain, complain to someone who can fix it"  So, this works with problems as well, Are you one to make a problem or are you one to Solve a problem?

Well, First you have to ASK the right questions and be a great detective so you can Zero in on the problem.  Good problem solvers ask a lot of questions instead of guessing or assuming what the problems may be.

One you've asked all the questions, now you can make a list of the problems.  This is where you will need to get a couple of people to help you brainstorm and bounce a few ideas off each other.  Get your team involved and think about the many solutions, now you have a list of all the bright ideas.  This is not the time to evaluate, but the time to generate the ideas.  Evaluating and Generating ideas are both a critical process, but now we're just generating.

Now that you've generated all the ideas, now is the time to Evaluate the ideas based on the impact, on a goal, and on the complixity of the idea.  Complexity is not about difficulty but it's determined by the TIME & MONEY that maybe be involved.

So, you have the ideas, you've evaluated them, now is the time to Execute.  This is where we impliment the Solution.

The final step is to check in with the Solution progress and determine if it's still the right one - This is where we RE-Examine the problem with the current solution.  There may be times when a problem still may exist because the solution wasn't right. So don't throw in the towel or quit too soon, because it's now time to look back at the other ideas and get another solution.

With everything - Practice Does Make Perfect - Just get in the habit of always bringing one solution idea for every problem that may come your way.  Ask Yourself, did I cause this problem or am I going to be the one to solve this problem.  You'll find that solutions and bright ideas will come your way whenever a problem arises.

So remember the next time you want to complain or you feel you may be right in the middle of a problem, stop and ask yourself, What can I do to help solve this?
