The Power Of No Means Knowing Your Yes

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

No ThoughtIn our daily lives, we make many choices, some turn out surprisingly well, others not so. But as the world gets busier and busier as situations pop up we need to better manage our yes to some things and our no to others.

Not sure why, maybe the pesky telemarketers calling all the phones all the time, or the pressures to go or not go to various meetings but I have gotten really good with my NOs. I call it the high bar to get to one of my YES answers to decide to do something.

The Power Of No Means Knowing Your Yes.

What that essentially means is time is priceless and you have to VALUE YOUR YES very preciously with what your values are. You should TRY things you have never tried before with a yes to learn and grow but if you have already evaluated that you should NOT spend 30 minutes on the phone with a product pitch you know you don't really need CUT IT OFF.

This NO NO NO philosophy extends to the wrong clients, wasteful meetings, trips to meet someone too far away, training classes that are so so, the list goes on and on. YOUR BURNING YES inside is what matters to you and KNOWING YOURSELF WELL with your values.

NEVER FEAR NO, use it judiciously.

Gary: So true. I have also found that some people trigger my "no" reaction. I have a particular friend who gives me so much advice, I have put a barrier with "NO" hoping that she would back off. Then I realized that this was her personality with everyone and one that would not likely change. From then on, I have been much more open to say "yes" to some advice. That's probably the same with telemarketers, some have good products but  because of the sheer volume of out of the blue calls with "how are you today", you say "no" to all of them. We should give them a chance--if I had the time, which I do not. Now I take advice from Activerainers.

Oh, Gary!  You've hit it one the head with this one.  There is a song from the musical Oklahoma - "I'm Just a Girl who Cain't Say No!"  Not a good theme song for any of us!

Superb info and I like the part of knowing your priorities and your burning yes, There is a saying that I firmly believe in that goes hand in hand with this blog and it is YOU MAKE TIME FOR THE THINGS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU

Gary, a hard lesson to learn is the necessity to simply saying "no!" Enjoy your day!

Gary, oh so true.  Just because it is out there to use does not mean we have to use it and just because we have been using does not mean we have to keep on using it.

Learning to say no to volunteerism is one of the hardest things I had to do professionally. William Feela is right!

Gary, it is so important to say 'NO'.

Gary Keller in his book 'The ONE Thing' shows many ways to say 'NO'.

I am getting better at this. Just today I answered a call and as soon as he said who he was with I said no I do not want to talk to you and hung up. Only felt bad for about 1/2 second. LOL. Happy Thanksgiving Gary
