California.....Your First Half Taxes Are Due

I'm not sure how other states handle their real property taxes, but, here in California, our tax year runs from July 1st to June 30.

The first half of the tax year is July 1st thru December 31st.  The tax bills are mailed out about the middle of October, with a due date of November 1st.  However, even though November 1st is the due date, homeowners are not delinquent on their 1st half tax bill until December 10th.  This is when there is a huge rush to the post office.

Just in time for Christmas.  Now tell me that doesn't add to the Christmas spirit.  lol

Our second half tax year, then, runs from January 1st thru June 30th.  This portion of the tax bill was mailed back in October with the first one.  The Second half tax bill is due on February 1, however, not delinquent until April 10th. Great timing, once again.  Tax time!

Honestly, I always wonder how they come up with these dates, and why they would try to have spread them out away from major money draining events live Christmas and Income Taxes.

Oh well, obviously, I was not consulted on this.
