The mission statement is "To Provide Alaskans Access to Safe, Quality, Affordable Housing".

Since 1986, Alaska Housing Finance Corporation has contributed over 1.5 billion dollars to the State of Alaska through cash transfers, debt service payments and capital projects after paying all their own operating expenses.  This is also after they spend millions each year helping Alaskans with their housing needs.  It is nothing short of amazing, and I'd like to recognize the good people at AHFC for their efforts.

Ron - Alaska Housing Finance Corporation is basically a statewide housing authority.  They are organized as a corporation because of their investments, the way I understand it.  Basically it's another state government entity (but don't tell them that!)

PS:  Please don't advertise on my blog.  It is really of no benefit to you and many people get quite upset over it.

AHFC is a state chartered entity somewhat similar to the GSE's - Fannie & Freddie.   Since inception they have made a tremendous positive impact on Alaska and the statewide housing market.  Thanks to a history of good management they have maintained their thus far unblemished credit rating... a major bonus in the finance world today.

Thanks, Jesse... I am fighting a cold and the words were somewhere in the fog that is supposed to be my brain.  I guess what I didn't make clear was that AHFC is a publicly held corporation.

Don't worry about it.  I'm not fighting a cold but after reading my comment it appears my ability to spell went out the window just the same.  No cold, no cold, no cold! :)

Hi, Danny - They really are.  I'm hoping to do articles about them because many of our citizens do not realize the benefits our state receives through AHFC.  My family thinks of them as the wisest use of oil money our state could ever have.  All their loans are assumable, fixed rate.

Debbie, here in Connecticut CHFA has helped hundreds of thousands if not millions of First Time Homebuyers to purchase their first home at below market interest rates.  It is great that in Alaska AHFC and Connecticut CHFA have tried to keep home ownership within reach.

Good Point...AHFC might be a lender of last resort if all these other ones go the way of Bear Stearns.
