It's Raining in Scottsdale!

For the first time in a few months, it's Raining in Scottsdale!  Our snowbirds landing at Phoenix Sky Harbor must think they're halucinating since we get about 7" of rain a year.  There are lots of things to remember when it rains in the desert. stupid Motorist

First, watch for flooding in hilly areas.  It's true that our landscape is somewhat hilly as those areas have "washes" that create what look like puddles.  But when you drive through them, you realize they are deeper than you think because It's Raining in Scottsdale!  So when you see a sign that says "Flood Area" be aware that you need to either slow down or avoid those areas.

Secondly, we have a "Stupid Motorist Law" in Arizona.  If you drive through an area that is barricaded, you will pay for the emergency rescue that ensues.  DO NOT drive through these areas for the reason listed above.

Third, be aware that our roads collect oil from cars and that oil becomes slippery when wet.  So when it rains, the roads ARE slick.  Drive as if you are driving through a slick snowy environment.  Be cautious, don't change lanes quickly, and do NOT speed.

It's wonderful that we have rain and we love that It's Raining in Scottsdale, but use some caution!

And in the Pacific NW, where rain is so common this time of year . . . bright blue sky, not a cloud -- rain or otherwise - to be seen!  Yes, watch for those slick roads, and hydro-planing is eerie and dangerous.

Good morning Jan. I am happy you are having rain because I suspect you need it. Absolutely didn't know about the conditions you described. Important stuff to know. Have a great day.

It is good to know that drivers can be fooled by the rain. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Tom - Yes, it's great to see puddles!

Kathy - Yes, they can apply to everyone, but in the Phoenix area we don't get enough rain to wash our streets, which leaves lots of oil!

Bob - And oh how we love green!

Carla - Of course you have sunny skies, because we don't!  But wait and that will change!

Sheila - Yes, we do need rain.  Pretty low on that!

Sharon - It works, too!

Debbie - Yes, safe for the rest of us.  When someone gets stuck, it takes crews away from other emergencies.

Joan - We loved our RAIN!  Nice puddles everywhere.  I'm sure you're seeing some great winter weather in your area.

Jan - we live right off the Indian Bend Wash - there have been more than a few "Stupid Motorist" tickets written here!  A few years ago, there were 2 helicopters trying to rescue some lady out of a brand new BMW coupe - when the water was 6-7' deep - did she REALLY think she'd make it...??!!

Sharon - Wow!  You've seen the law at work.  It amazes me what people do in the rain!
