It's Raining in Scottsdale!
For the first time in a few months, it's Raining in Scottsdale! Our snowbirds landing at Phoenix Sky Harbor must think they're halucinating since we get about 7" of rain a year. There are lots of things to remember when it rains in the desert.
First, watch for flooding in hilly areas. It's true that our landscape is somewhat hilly as those areas have "washes" that create what look like puddles. But when you drive through them, you realize they are deeper than you think because It's Raining in Scottsdale! So when you see a sign that says "Flood Area" be aware that you need to either slow down or avoid those areas.
Secondly, we have a "Stupid Motorist Law" in Arizona. If you drive through an area that is barricaded, you will pay for the emergency rescue that ensues. DO NOT drive through these areas for the reason listed above.
Third, be aware that our roads collect oil from cars and that oil becomes slippery when wet. So when it rains, the roads ARE slick. Drive as if you are driving through a slick snowy environment. Be cautious, don't change lanes quickly, and do NOT speed.
It's wonderful that we have rain and we love that It's Raining in Scottsdale, but use some caution!
