A deadly combination, furnace, smoke detectors and C O detectors.
How many homes are in the Danger Zone when it comes to safety? In my opinion it's way too many homes.
When ever Desert Sun home Inspections in Carlsbad New Mexico inspects homes for buyers or sellers. Safety is number one priority.
Buyers want to know their home they are wanting to purchase will be a safe home.
Let's take a look at the home I got to inspect for a home buyer who wanted to make sure the home was a safe home. "It's the hidden things that I am afraid" of she said.
The home built in 1979 and was in pretty good shape till we get to the appliance part of the home inspection.
Just like the Thanksgiving Turkey being stuffed.
The furnace was stuffed into the furnace closet. And by saying stuffed. I do mean stuffed.
Take a look at the way this furnace was installed.
Notice the green stain on the front of the door? I knew what this was before I even opened up the furnace to take a look.
But that's not the worst of it. The roof was just replaced Uh not, the roof was overlayed just this past summer. This will play a huge part in the issues I found.
The most frightening of the issues is this next shot that clearly shows issues.
This disconnected exhaust venting is a MAJOR issue. This furnace when running heating the home is spilling a lot of C O into the home.
I asked the home owner if there was a C O detector in the home. Their response was, "NO".
What about a smoke detector? Their response was in the hallway.
Really? This is what I found in this Four bedroom home.
This was the only smoke detector in the home.
It was not in operating condition either.
From a Home inspectors position. The home has major safety issues that need to be taken care of now not later. Even if the home owners don't sell the home. They need to remove the deadly safety issues and install the proper safety fail safes into place.
Like getting the furnace re connected and the exhaust sealed properly. Installing a C O detector for safety. then installing smoke detectors for the safety of the entire family and the home.
I really hate to find such things when inspecting homes. But, better I find the issues now than read about a family that was sick or worse from C O exposure.
Due to the ICE STORM Yesterday I was not able to get on the Net. It was down.
For this I apologize for any inconvenience.
This is why you always get a home inspection by a certified inspector.
Have a very good week end Every One.
