Thanksgiving is a time to spend with family an friends, and to reflect on our lives and what we have to be thankful for. Many traditions are attached to this Holiday from turkey to parades to football, there are and abundance of ways that families and friends across the country decide to take part in the holiday. Just a quick Thanksgiving History lesson; the tradition began back in 1621, in Plymouth, when colonists showed their appreciation for the help which came from the Native Americans who taught them how to cultivate corn. After a successful harvest the colonists who came from England on the Mayflower enjoyed a feast with their Native American allies.

Another popular tradition which is not quite as old as the turkey dinner, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, started 87 years ago, is a symbol of the start of the holiday season. "America's Parade" starts at 77th street in New York City and travels 2.5 miles through NYC ending in front of Macy's at Herald Square. If you can't make it to the city join 50 million other American's who will be watching the parade on T.V.!

What would Turkey Day be without a little Football?? In millions of homes across the country the game will be the back round music played to set the mood for their family's feast. This year the NFL games will be Packers vs Lions, Raiders vs Cowboys, Steelers vs Ravens. Many will venture out to the cold to view a local game before Thanksgiving dinner.

One of the newer Thanksgiving Day tradition, with a healthy twist, is a Turkey Day road race. If you are looking to burn a few hundred calories before your feast there are plenty of events state wide which you can take part in and support a good cause!

Linda, we do have some national traditions concerning Thanksgiving, don't we?  I can sure remember watching the Packers play Detroit on Thanksgiving Day during the mid 1960's.
