KILL YOUR TELEVISION!

Today our society is bombarded with bad news that the media spews out everyday.  If you really believe them, you are in for a battle of wills.   We all know bad news sells and gets our attention, but at some point we all have to turn the television off.  If you listen to the media and believe them, they will have you hiding under the covers and not to come out until they give you the all clear.  I don't think so.  The media is not going to run my life and my thoughts!

I am guilty of having it on as background noise while I get ready in the mornings and while I am answering emails or checking out the Rain.  When I hear Brian Williams say the state of the economy is the worst in 30 years because of real estate and the stock market. I have all of the power- it is called a clicker and poof, Brian is out of my life.  I used to be addicted to news 24/7.  I had to quit.  I am much better now.

I try to look at the bright side of things.  That has been tough for the last couple of years.  Respectfully, I don't need any help from Mr. Williams.  I decided to take control of my reality and know that things are not as bad in my area as the media makes it out to be.  I read Ray Nellum's  post  My Glass is half full. . . the power of the Postive, and truer words have not been spoken.  You make your own reality.   Don't wait for the Media give you the all clear to come out from under the covers!!

You have to believe in yourself and I guarantee you will be more productive and happier when not listening to the negative.

Now, go out there and sell some houses!!

I believe that the positive are doing well in this market and the doom and gloomers are losing their shirts. I have a positive outlook and have had four closings in the last two weeks while some of the depressed agents I know who complain about the market are losing their homes. It all depends how hard you work, but business is out there and houses are selling.

Said well. I was in a situation about a year ago that I was in a total TV free world. The corporate housing I was in did not have a TV and for 6 months I did not have a TV, none Nada zip.. what I did learn is how to read a BOOK not a Blog I learned how to get to bed on time and wake up rested I learned not to care about things outside my reach I learned to listen to people live right there in front of me people about their lives and ideas. I learned that life is what is happening right in front of you not what is on reality TV.

Jeremy, Me too.  I find good, positive things here and glad for it!

Lisa, I agree with you and am busy and happy about my business.  That is why I blog so much about being positive, because it will bring positive results if you work hard and believe!

Hi Audrey,  I agree. I've turned off the set over 20 years ago, and haven't felt as if I have missed a single thing. I admit I get out the rabbit ears and try to tune in the Super Bowl game once a year, that is my limit for TV. I don't even care about who is playing, just the ads and the half time shows. I too like to read.

Eric, you are brave. I have not gone cold turkey, but I am not interested in all of the nonsense out there.  I am impressed and believe that there is more to our lives than hanging on every word that comes out of that box!

Audrey, I like Brian Williams, but bad news sells newscasts and newspapers. Just listen to it and shrug it off.

I haven't sworn off TV but I know where you are coming from.

Gary, I like Brian just fine.  He is who I mostly watch, but I have to turn him off when nothing but bad news comes out. Thanks for stopping by

Good idea, Audrey.  We are probably influenced a lot subconsciously by things we "hear" but are not really "listening" to.  Hopefully some of our clients who are presently sitting on the fence can let their positive thoughts take precedence over the media, too!

Good thought Audrey!  Congratulations on your Selection for the Blogger's Choice Spotlight!  It is so important that we control what we allow to control and influence our mindset.  With so much negativity in the air...this becomes a critical part of making every day the most successful that it can be!  Thanks for a well written post.

That is quite a vicious title you have for this post :) But I completely agree with you, it seems like all you hear about (especially on national news) is war and terror and death and crime. Enough! It is a hard addiction to break though - congratulations... I haven't quite gotten there yet.

We are not big T.V. watchers I read news online and in very small increments...I have to stay positive and be ready for the next issue at hand.  This is a great post and some terrific points...sometimes these messages get to us subliminally.  Great post and congrats your post has been selected for the Blogger's Choice Selections.

It's TV, it's print media, it's Internet.......P  U  L  E  A  S  S  E....give it a break! Perhaps Congress could get involved and mandate a preliminary disclosure that states, 'Bad news is about to be relayed. Should you find that offensive, please use the next 5 seconds of silence to terminate this broadcast.' Or perhaps we could get a bill drafted that would require 25% of all news in any media form be positive. Within several short months I'm sure the Senate and Congress could get  legislation like that approved. The we could select a task force to enforce the new law.......

Nah, we're to busy in our government with fixing the Real Estate and Mortgage Industries problems, not to mention the steroid problem in Major League Baseball to make any progress in that area. Maybe when our work is done in those areas..........Whens the cycle come back in line anyway?

Good, solid, thought provoking post! Thanks!

Negativity rubs off on others...that is a proven fact.....it's up to each individual how they are going to inject some positive stuff into their lives...and into the world. :)

Thomas, I agree.  Even if you are not really paying attention you pick the negative up.  We need to know what is going on, but not beaten down on a daily basis!

Lola, Thank you for stopping by I really appreciate your input.  I am so excited to get a Blogger's Choice Award!!

Candis, Sorry, I am a bit of a drama queen sometimes!! Thanks for checking out my post!

Scott, I agree, I get so tired of all the whining and complaining!  I just want to know why my tax dollars are being wasted on steriods in baseball?  Helloooo?

Audrey, good girl! Forget Brian Williams.........that channel is all about negativity. Go to Fox News or ABC......;-) At any rate, you're right about the negativity. We just have to keep posting in a positive way. By keeping track of our market, we can see what the trend is........and then share that in your blogs and in your conversations, etc.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Hi, Audrey,

Congrats on the big blue ribbon.  Don't know how I missed you before, but I've subscribed now.  Nice post!  Maybe I'm just tired tonight, but that girl looks pretty comfy with those covers wrapped around her!  Makes me wish I could take a little power nap before dinner... oh, yeah, I have to cook the dinner!  Oh, well......

Great Post !!  And hey congrats for the Winning Award.  I have been throwing things at my TV, but killing it sounds much more proactive!

I couldn't agree more.... I say the same thing. Although things are not as great as they were, there are still closings going on out there. I go visit Mortgage Offices every week, and although they are not super busy, every office does have some work.  Some activity is better than no activity!  But whoever thinks that by sitting around crying about how terrible things are is going to pay the bills, they have another thing coming.  Same way the boom passed so will the slump.....

Audrey,

I love it! I have been going through the same things right now with the media. It's making me into a bitter person that keeps having terrible thoughts.. I must say goodbye to the negatives and focus on the positive. No more Headline News! Thanks so much for your thoughts.

Hi Christine, Thanks!  I think my husband would have a heart attack if I REALLY killed the TV.  I just have to get away from the news.  They just beat a dead horse!!

Miriam, That is exactly how I feel.  I am moving and grooving along.  All that negative stuff can just get away from me.  I don't want any of it to rub off on me!!

Kathy, LOL - me too.  A good walk will just make us feel better all the way around!

Kelly, Thanks for stopping by.  The news totally stresses me out these days.  I decided not to pay so much attention to it and I have definitely felt better and been busier?  Go figure?

Hi Audrey...

I am here as a result of Jason Sardi's post.

I thought you'd be pleased to know I stopped watching TV five years ago.

It's one of the best moves I've ever made.

Seems to me we get enough crap on a day to day basis without watching it on TV.

If I want crap I'll just go to the local supermarket and watch the shoppers be rude and mean to the store clerks :)

Better yet I'll attend a closing and watch the Buyer and Seller argue :)

P.S. We never go to Buyer/Seller closings. Our Seller's sign separately. We keep them away from the closing crap :)

TLW...ROAR!

There was a singer in the 1960's, I think it was John Prine, who sang a song that went, "Blow up your TV, Throw away your paper, Move to the country, Build you a home>"  It went on and was really fun to listen to  - with advice like eat a lot of peaches and have a lot of children - he was one of my favorite singers at the time.  God, I'm dating myself!  He shows up at Wolf Trap once in a while, and all of the former hippies show up to hear him!

TLW, Thanks for stopping by.  I am very proud of you for getting away from the TV years ago.  I'll bet there is some way to calculate that you have extended your life by many years because you quit TV a long time ago! :)  Jason is the best, I thanked him for mentioning this post.

Patricia, I LOVE John Prine.  Saw him 20 some years ago when I was in St Louis.  He was the best!!  Missed him at Wolf Trap.  I need to pay more attention!

Audrey, great post and so full of the truth.  We haven't had tv since 1999 and I can honestly say that we are much better off.  I started turning it off (nothing but video's and now dvd) because wwe had smaller kids and was tired of the trash and the negative mind sets that it caused.  Almost 10 years later, we have definately seen the power of it, we have great postitive kids and their Christmas list is only a couple of items long every year.

Good morning, Audrey.   Sometimes, I feel like the press tries to direct history, rather than report actual news.  How do they sleep at night?  Knowing the next day, they can steer the country where ever they want to!  Great post.  Glad you got the blue ribbon and Jason wrote about it!

Bonnie, That is a great testament of the power of the TV and how negative it can be.  I just think the press needs to report the positive along with the negative, they just don't get it.

Natalie, What a great analogy.  So true. I have said since I was young enough to pay attention to elections, that the press really decides who the elected officials are in many instances.  They give positive coverage to their favorites, and they are not coy about showing their bias.  I was surprised I got mentioned.  Jason is a really nice guy!  Thanks for stopping by.
