The Blizzard of the Century...

By
Home Inspector with Complete Home Inspections, Inc. TN Lic#050

When it comes to predicting weather, it seems as if the prognosticators have the propensity to over sensationalize the forecast. In what was touted to be the "blizzard of the century" the media was urging the public to stock up on eggs, milk, bread, and everything else that the family might need for the next 2 - 1/2 months and batten down the hatches. Well, it seems as if another dud has passed through the area.
Sure, we got some flurries and some ice chips for a while but then all of it turned over to rain; which is a good thing. So at least this morning I don't have to contend with all the idiots on the roadways. It seems as if Nashvillians drive bad enough as it is. Mix a little rain and worse yet "the S word" in the forecast and the highways and by-ways become an absolute nightmare.
Thankfully, today is a kickback no shave day and I have a short 1 mile commute to the office in which I will hibernate for the entire day. Today is my day to work on the business because tomorrow I will be working in the business and giving the easy ones, the business. - LOL.

We have had enough of blizzards of he century in the Northeast the last couple of years. Is there such a thing as expecting mild winter, a few flurries, so cold weather and then spring. Am I asking too much?

Dramatizing by the media of storm forecasts is supposed to keep the audience tuned in.   All it really does is make them appear quite incompetent.  Accuweather.com is about as far as I go.

The storm that went through Tennessee yesterday is just hitting here today.  I'm hoping for a bust.

Good morning, Michael.... they're predicting 55 mph winds here...no snow.... 3" of rain.... I'll take it....it's better than a blizzard!!!! but as you said, it's probably only going to be a little drizzle....

Hi Michael,

It's getting a bit warmer here. But still very cold at night.

I think winter is here a bit early this year.

Have a warmer day in Brentwood.

Best, Clint McKie

Like everything, the media loves to sensationalize just to keep us interested.  I agree with Lenn, it makes them look incompetent.

They talked up a big snow storm here but at our house we only got a couple of inches.  Seems like the rest of the state fared quiet well.  Taos got 17 inches.  We may head up there to our cabin for Thanksgiving... Nothing in stone yet as Debbie is not suppose to be traveling yet.

Michael, They used to do that in Seattle all the time. But every once in a while they would be right and it would be a mess.

Our weather people come up with sensationalized headlines for our conditions. Cold Crush 2013; when our weather dipped towards freezing the other day. It keeps someone employed I guess

Michael, Dallas dodged the weather bullet that the media predicted, as well.  Oklahoma was not so lucky.

No, no one here in USA ordered any blizzards! In fact, we do not want them at all this winter. Please send all blizzards south to a tropical island 'cause we want to trade for some nice warm weather for the next 4 months. OK, - a little snow on Christmas Eve and of course, snow for the skiers.

Michael, we were originally warned of a mix of rain with ice. As I write this, the sanding trucks are running down the road, so it is more ice right now and that's too early in the evening
