Murfreesboro and Surrounding Areas Add to Middle Tennessee’s Expansion

rutherford county growthFurther proof that Middle Tennessee will continue to grow over the next thirty years comes from Rutherford County. The census stated in 2010 that the county was home to 262,604 people. The projected numbers for 2040 more than double the population, with an expected 592,812 people expected to call the county home. The growth of the area is, of course, a result of Nashville’s popularity, but also the excellent schools, beautiful landscape, and friendly people. While welcome, this does bring its own set of challenges.

The Challenges

With the unprecedented growth, Murfreesboro is already beginning to feel the strain of additional traffic. City and county officials are already considering the changes that will need to be made to the transportation infrastructure in order to handle the influx of new residents.

The same is also true for the neighborhoods and communities welcoming new people into the fold. Planning housing for the larger numbers isn’t easy. Fortunately, a large percentage of those planning to buy are expected to seek smaller homes with less land. New families and retired couples prefer to seek brand new homes, sacrificing space for the most modern amenities.

The Benefits

Of course, seeing such amazing growth in the area is exciting. Residents will welcome thousands of new businesses to support the many new people in the area. Murfreesboro is already home to some of the top shopping spots in the state, so things can only get better.

As always, new business is excellent news for homeowners. The current homes in the area will experience a boost in value, especially those close to popular shopping and restaurants. Fortunately, as the area grows, more of those popular businesses will move into the area, which means homes that may not have seen much appreciation in price over the past several years will finally experience a boost.
