Turkey Day Etiquette

Get ready to eat like a king and loosen that belt buckle, Thanksgiving is approaching!! What a great time to spend with family and friends chatting it up, eating, watching football and just plain relaxing!

Many times we are not the ones having the dinner but we are the guests at the feast. Anytime you are a guest of anyone's home there is certain etiquette you must follow Turkey Day is no exception to the rule.

Be sure to follow these simple Turkey Day Etiquette Rules so you won't be the topic of conversation on Christmas!

  1. No matter what the host says, You MUST bring a dish of some sort. Even if the host says not to you should not come to the door empty handed. Wine is a great option and if you want to bring a dessert try one from my blog Thanksgiving Day Dessert Ideas. Oh So Yummy!!
  2. Always ask the cook if he/she needs any help. They will likely say no but it never hurts to ask.
  3. After you offered a hand and the cook says no thank you steer clear of him/her and give them their space. The last thing they want is someone in their kitchen getting in the way.
  4. Don't be a pig. Don't load your plate up with several servings all at once. Remember this isn't a free buffet, others have to eat as well. Fill your plate and eat what's on it, and if you are still hungry be sure everyone has already gotten what they want before you go in for seconds.
  5. Clean your plate. Once dinner is finished don't just leave your plate on the counter and walk off, wash your plate. Throw out left overs and clean your plate off. This will make cleaning later easier (DON'T FORGET TO OFFER HELP CLEANING!)
  6. Don't bring up anything negative. Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks and be thankful for what we have, so try to leave the negative comments to yourself even if your brother is dating the devil!!!
  7. Be sure to say THANK YOU!! A great way to give thanks to the hostess is to say grace before dinner and thank them in prayer.
  8. Turn the Cell Phone OFF! Well, maybe not off but be sure to leave your cell out of your hand during Thanksgiving family time and dinner. Even after dinner be sure to leave the cell alone. No playing games, no facebook, no blogging, NO NOTHING!
  9. Turn the TV off. I know, I know Football is a HUGE deal on Thanksgiving but be respectful of your host/hostess and keep the TV off until after dinner.
  10. Be social. This is the time to speak face-to-face with those your love. If you are a date, be sure to engage in conversation with the rest of the family not just your date.

Thanksgiving is such a fun time to catch up with family anf friends and eat like a king for the day! Have a Happy Thanksgiving and don't forget your TURKEY DAY ETIQUETTE.

Marilyn, these are great Thanksgiving tips and visitors can sure help out as the hosts have gone to an incredible amount of work in cleaning the house for company and food preparation for the big dinner!  Well said!
