Men Buy Functional Clothes

This is a topic that consistently provides much entertainment to me.  For some reason, women love clothes and shoes.  Every woman that I have ever known has lots and lots of both.  Most of them love to go "shopping", a term that I use loosely because many times, items are not even purchased.  They are looked at, touched, picked up and even stood behind to check for proper fit but then put back on the rack with the comment "that is really nice".

Seemingly, choices for clothes and shoes are rarely made based on function, but, rather, fashion and style.

Case-in-point: the green "sweater" in the picture posted to the right.

We live in Connecticut.  If you are climatologically-challenged, it gets cold in Connecticut between October and March.  Sometimes, it gets really cold and requires us to put on layers of clothes to keep warm.

I put "sweater" in quotes because I don't know that it can be called that.  As you can see, it doesn't look like much more than cheesecloth and has the density of a sieve.  In order for a person to "sweat" in this sweater, you would have to be in Florida in July.

Men would never buy a sweater like this; it's simply not functional.  Even if you put this sweater on, you still have to put a sweater on to keep warm.  It's no wonder women are always complaining about being cold.  Men don't; we're too busy wearing clothes that actually keep us warm.

Women's shoes are also items that make no sense to me.  Men are simple when it comes to shoes.  We have 5 pairs of shoes: an everyday pair, everyday sneakers, work-in-the-yard boots/sneakers, dress/casual shoes and black dress shoes.

Optional shoes include brown dress shoes (if the man owns suits other than black, blue or grey), gym/running sneakers, hiking boots, flip flops and skateboarding shoes (you can't skateboard in regular sneakers; they get ruined).

For many men, the "everyday pair" and the everyday sneakers is the same pair of shoes, reducing the list from 5 to 4.  Each pair of shoes serves a specific function.  Every pair of shoes that a man owns fits his feet and are comfortable.

Women seem to have an "everyday of the month" pair, that is, one pair of shoes for each day of the month.  They appear to buy shoes based on which outfits they go with and typically own more shoes than men own clothes.

And NONE of them fit right!  I can't imagine a man buying a pair of shoes that hurt his feet when he tries them on.  Women do this!  I've witnessed women trying on shoes, complaining about how they fit and how uncomfortable they are and buying them anyways because they would go perfectly with the black skirt and maroon top.

You wouldn't get that from a man: "Joe, you should get those Nikes because they would go really well with your Wrangler jeans and Patriots sweatshirt."

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go organize my shoes.

There...done.
