Did We Catch the Christmas Virus?

I really don’t like the holidays to start too early or bleed onto other holidays at the stores. It happens every year earlier and earlier. Yet …

Two weeks ago while on my mid-night WalMart jaunt I found the artificial Christmas Tree I wanted to purchase. If you plan to buy an artificial tree you have to start early as the good ones will disappear off the selves quickly. This year I was determined to be proactive. My husband was not happy as he likes real trees. So do I but I never can settle for an inexpensive tree.

Now the pre-lite tree is up and last night we decorated the tree with my youngest daughter and her new beau. I must admit it looks beautiful.

The issue is we have never put any decorations up this early! My goodness we haven’t even cooked the turkey yet! Did We Catch the Christmas Virus?

Last year it seemed that Christmas just zoomed by and I didn’t get enough. This year I am determined to give it more time to enjoy.

I love Christmas but I have to admit I love Thanksgiving more.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

Sussie,

I think I have decided next year the tree may go up for Thanksgiving depending on when it comes. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Sussie-I'd like to use a real tree for Christmas, but I'm too cheap. Recycling christmas trees is one of my contributions to ecology.

WOW Fred... That is not very long.... did you change that in your life time?

Bob... I intend to slow down tomorrow if my dad will let me...

Hey Yolanda... I hope you guys have a great holiday tomorrow!

Wayne... I am not cheap but things have been tough this year so an artificial tree it is. I like to use real flocked trees for Christmas.

Sussie   As a Town Trustee we will have our place decorated for the Christmas Parade on the 7th.  There is one family around here that their place is decorated for Christmas 365 days a year...and has been for years.  I think she has 7 trees inside their home.

Our tree is also up :). Remember a Norman Rockwell time when some traditionally waited until Christmas Eve to set up the live spruce, balsam, fir, or pine trees. Smelled so good, too. There is a saying that mankind is a #5 vibratory people but spinning at a #7 earth vibration. We are perhaps just going too fast. Sooooo, Merry Christmas! :)) By the way before I spin past - enjoy tomorrow - you know, the TURKEY ~

Sussie:

Nice post it does seem like things are going faster each year. Probably because I am getting older. lol

John ... Wasn't that one lady who decorates her home 365 days a year on National TV?

Jane ... My turkey came out awesome. This year I opted to make a small turkey and we only have enought for two sandwiches.... I had thoughts of King Ranch Turkey... and Turkey Enchiladas!

Alan ... I think you are on to something there....

Joni ... Oh I love Christmas but it still comes in second to Thanksgiving.

Hey Joe! I hope you enjoy the TG holiday meal.

Bless you too Bob!

Hey Dorie! I hope you enjoyed your TG meal. I did!

Thanks John! I hope you ate enough turkey... I just went back and there isn't enough for more than two sandwiches!

Sussie, we always go get a live tree but I look forward to the future day when I can just put up that pre-lit one.

I agree Sussie, we are letting the retail giants change our seasons, I still don't do any Christmas shopping or get a tree until the 24th.

Now on to the real issue, a Fake Tree!  Somewhere in America a real tree is crying as it just lost it's job and the land it was on just issued an eviction notice, and the owner will be planting corn there next spring.

Just joking, but I do agree with your husband, nothing like real ecologically sound trees rather than a plastic tree.  But my mother agrees with you and likes hers for the convenience of pulling it out every year all pre-decorated and with no needles falling off.

Sussie, There just isn't much time between Thanksgiving and Christmas so it is okay to get it up. I too go for the artificial tree even though we may do the real tree again one day.

Yolanda... I know I am going to miss you being there. Maybe we can have a mini meet up in Katy in six months or so.

Michelle... Well if I am getting a real tree I want a flocked one and they cost plenty and we are trying to save money for our next big purchase.

Bob... I do like real trees and you really can't get that great smell a real tree gives. However, if we buy one early it will be dead by the 15th. It is so hot here it is ridiculous. I am happy when it is just cold-er since it makes it more the season when it is a lot more cooler.

Debbie... I think the seasons are flying by because I am getting so much older.

Every year I try to slow down the holiday season. Maybe this year I will finally do it. Maybe if I put my tree up early, it would make the Christmas season seem longer.

Hi Sussie,

I did not buy any gifts until after Thanksgiving. I like how Nordstrom's posted that they only celebrate one holiday at a time. that is the way I feel too.
