Every year millions of people make a resolution to improve or change something in their life. Having it coincide with New Year's dates back to the ancient Babylonians.
A 2007 study that looked at the success rate of New Year's resolutions found that 88% of people making a resolution ended up failing. And yet we also know that writing our goals down makes us more likely to actually reach them.
For our December EchoSign and ActiveRain challenge we want you to share a New Year's Business Resolution with us and with your friends on ActiveRain. By writing down your goal, and ultimately by sharing it, we hope to make you more likely to keep your resolution.
So what is a Business New Year's Resolution? It's just like a regular one.......except it relates to your business, and you're actually going to DO IT! (or at least that's the plan, right?) In order to try to help you keep this resolution, we're going to suggest that you do a 'Me agreement'. What's a me agreement? It's just you writing down a goal, signing it....and maybe choosing to share it with your friends and family (or not, your choice......but you're ten times more likely to meet your goal if you have people to hold you accountable)
It could be as simple as 'make sure my desk is clean each Friday before I leave the office' or it could be as complex as 'Add 1000 names to my database'. The "what" is what this is all about. You have to figure that out.
Let me explain the how....
The How
Write a blog post about your Business New Year's Resolution. In the blog post also include how you are going to keep yourself accountable. Maybe that's by signing a 'Me Agreement' and sharing it with your friends. Maybe you're going to pick another AR member as your accountability buddy. Maybe you're going to have your wife or daughter or mom keep you accountable.
We aren't going to put a minimum word limit on the post, but it probably makes sense to talk yourself through how you are actually going to accomplish the goal. The goal itself is probably not much more than one or two sentences. The meat of the blog post becomes how you plan to accomplish the goal.
Submit your blog post for the contest by leaving a link to your blog post in the comment section of this blog post. All posts submitted prior to Friday December 27th at 11:59pm Pacific Time will be given 1500 ActiveRain points.
What's a 'Me Agreeement'?
Adobe EchoSign has come up with a cool app on Facebook that shows you how easy it is to use their e-signature solution. A 'me agreement' is a way for you to quickly try out using an e-signature, while at the same time committing to yourself that you are going to accomplish something. For our case here, that could be your New Year's Business Resolution. The bold among us (or maybe the folks who feel they need the most accountability) can then share that 'me agreeement' with your friends on Facebook.
So did you just get back from doing your 'me agreement' and you're dumbfounded at why you haven't used e-signatures earlier to make things super easy for you and your clients. I mean seriously guys, it's about to be 2014. If you don't have this capability in your repertoire at this point........(If you could see me right now my chin would be slightly sunk and my head would be slowly swaying back and forth. Yes, that's disappointment in my eyes...)
Luckily Adobe EchoSign offers you a free account (with no credit card required) to get you started. Just do it!
