Good Morning....or should I say " Top o' the Mornin 'to ya "....yep, today is St. Patrick's Day. No, it wasn't over the week-end...it is always on March 17th, which is today :) So today's Monday Gifts will be GREEN in honor of this fun Irish Holiday.
St. Patricks Day
My last name is McGraw.....so do you think I am Irish? Yep, and my fathers name was Paddy :) He changed it to Patrick because our Military told him no man was named Paddy.....guess they'd never met an Irishman........
So, today is the day that we remember most as kids as the day that if we didn't wear GREEN that we'd be pinched :) So, look around you at the kids....see how many of them are wearing green today. Not that they know why they're wearing it....except they know that if they don't their friends will "pinch" them :).
Here is a small History of wearing Green...a very condensed version for sure.
It started with England trying to curb a rebellion led by Irish Protestants in the 1700's. This group of Irishmen wore Shamrocks to identify themselves, sort of like our Rotary wears their pin to identify themselves. But the Queen of England outlawed the Shamrock, and if caught you could be hung for wearing it.
Many years later, when a Group of Irish Soldiers fought well for England in South Africa, the Queen rewarded them by allowing them to wear the shamrock on their caps. This has now become a symbol of honoring the Irish. It started with Shamrocks, and this really is the most universal symbol, but it also includes anything green. And so today we wear Green to symbolize...........Fun, Parties, and anything Irish :) :)
Gift #1 The number 3 is lucky, but If you decide to look for a 4 leaf clover be prepared to be looking for a VERY long time :) :)
