A day at home, a day of family...

One of the pleasures of changing countries, and "assimilating" is getting used to new holidays, especially those with extensive family traditions. I can relate to mounded tables anywhere, whether the base be ham or beef or turkey or mud crab. The attendant family make the feast. Food bonds family.

I don't get excited by turkey, neither cooking, nor eating. Don't get me wrong: this is personal taste accrued with age, not me railing against a tradition.

But turkey is on the menu at our house. My wife is as strong on traditions as she is on family history. We get the lot. Even the preparation smells in this house are guaranteed fattening. All likely to be sleep inducing...

It's been a morning of check in, scattered family all over, with news of their celebrations, affected by time zones.

My acceptance of pie, to "keep me going", has resulted in a plate with four different pie flavors. I expect excess in everything today.

A great day for family and being home.

Happy Thanksgiving.
