It's OK to Wish Me "Happy Thanksgiving"...really!

By

It’s OK to Wish Me Happy Thanksgiving… really!  And other Turkey Day Musings.

It’s after 10 pm, and today, we had an extra long walk at the beach, watched frazzledthe surfers; watched (more or less) 3 football games and part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, eaten a weeks worth  of calories, Face-timed my family in Houston  and am now pooped!

~Something came to mind today as Larryand I walked along A1A.  More than a few people said “Happy Holiday.”  Not Happy Thanksgiving, Nor  Happy Chanukah.  And some of those who said “Happy Holiday” said it as if they were speaking a foreign language and having difficulty saying this

phrase.

So, I’m curious… have we now become so “politically correct” (or timid) that we’re scared to wish someone Happy Thanksgiving… a non-religious-no gifts required National holiday?

oreo turkeyI’m aware of the fact that for the first time in many years, Hanukkah and Thanksgiving fell together, creating for some “Thanksgivukkah!”  but, it’s ok to wish me Happy Thanksgiving, really.

~Black Friday, cyber Monday, malls opening at midnight Thanksgiving night… not going to do it!

~Chocolate lover that I am, I did not come close to eating one of the Oreo turkeys that we made on Wednesday.  But.. take a look at what we made!

Hope everyone enjoyed their day!  Keep in mind, this is just the beginning of the holiday season folks.  We’re just getting started!

LOL. He probably doesn't really know you that well, that you celebrate thanksgiving as much as anyone does.

I noticed a couple of Happy Holidays too, Kathy. I thought that was odd but whatever.

I don't agree with the political correctness issue....it's absurd to think we have to be so sensitive.  I like saying "Happy Holidays".  It's not a political thing for me at all.  I say Merry Christmas, when I'm being holiday specific.  I use Happy Holidays when I'm wishing happiness for the whole holiday season, which in my mind is now through New Years.  For me, it's an even greater wish....the whole season instead of just one day.

Have a great day!

It's all so silly! I have not understood the offense taken by wishing someone a happy day. It's wishing them JOY, not evil.

I saw a comment made that says it is all so silly. No we are so silly givng up our heritage which has been worked on since the 1950's. We silly people have lost our backbone and after we lose our country those people who think everything is so silly will be crying the most. At least God will not have to feel our loss since we got rid of him.

Well, that does not make any sense now does it.

What is wrong with saying Happy Thanksgiving? Sad.

I have people thank me at Christmas time for saying "Merry Christmas"

We should all accept each other for our "differences"

Jon- I did!  And....I hope you had a wonderous Thanksgiving as well.

Patty- could be.  It just struck me as odd.

Toni- doesn't really matterbut I do notice things like that.

Sharon- now that's certainly another way to look at it, and you're right... from now until after January is one big holiday season.

Rob- Sharon had a good point about wishing people well for the whole holiday season.

Karen- agreed.  Seems like there are more important things to be concerned about.

Wayne- agreed!

Jimmy- Life keeps changing, doesn't it.

Bobbie- I totally agree!

My philosophy is that is if it's something happy you are wishing me, go for it, whether I celebrate the holiday or not.  That's why I don't hesitate to wish people Merry Christmas either.  It's not an insult, for goodness sake.  We have become too politically correct.

I know that there is a certain religion that doesn't celebrate these holidays, so I refrain from greeting them with "Merry Christmas or "Happy Thanksgiving."

Hi Kathy~ We really do get hung up on the political correctness, don't we? It's almost to the point of ridiculous!

Hi Kathy, I think switching Happy Holidays vrs Happy Thanksgiving shows just how far some in our country have pulled away from our roots as a nation. It was a celebration of the bountiful harvests.

A lot of Americans are trying to be so politically correct they have lost the true meaning of the season.  So having said that I hoped you had a great Thanksgiving and will have a very Merry Christmas.

Kathy - I'm on board and wish the madness would stop. Meaningless words has no meaning. Being specific makes others know precisely what you're talking about. I pledge to always use the correct phrase for the fitting occasion and exercise my freedom of speech.

Now that Thanksgiving Day is over, I want to wish you in advance, Happy St. Nicholas Day and Merry Christmas too. May you have all the blessings you deserve.

Kathy-Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving and it does sound like you did. I don't like the crap about political correctness. I do think we all need to do what is right for us without purposefully hurting anyone. I am a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and all the other ones in between kind of gal. I will continue to say that whether anybody thinks it is politically incorrect or not. We all know when politicians are involved it is never a good thing

Dale- had a great Thanksgiving... hope you did as well.

Catherine- thank you and Happy Thanksgiving to you too.

Chris Ann- I totally agree.  Say it with joy and no one should take offense.

Rosie- I can respect that.

Donna- that it is.  I think that we'd be so much better off if we could just respect our differences.

William- I agree and has nothing to do with religion.

James- thank you. I did have a bountiful Thanksgiving and will have a Merry Christmas.  I wish you the same.

Patricia- I don't think anyone wants to offend but don't you think we've gone beyond common sense.

Sharon- we should celebrate and learn about our differences, not try to cover them up.

Who are those people who insist on political correctness? I think we need to get them their own island and let them live there in correctness so the rest of us can wish each other happy days any darn time we feel like it.

Just in case I don't think of it later...

Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Valentine's Day, Happy St. Patrick's Day, Happy Ground Hog's day, Happy Easter, Happy Memorial Day, Happy 4th of July, Happy Labor Day, Happy Halloween, and ... what have I missed? I can't remember the names of the Wiccan celebrations. Seems like one is Beltain - so Happy Beltain, too.
