Your relationship with your agent shouldn't end at closing.....

If you wanted to buy or sell your home in the Palm Harbor-Clearwater area, you would probably pick up the phone or search the internet and talk to several real estate agents. Once you found one or two that you felt comfortable with, you would probably interview them in person and see if they are the right person for the job. You would sign an agreement with this person, they would market your home (or find your new dream home). They would  negotiate on your behalf so you get the very best deal for your situation. They would walk you through the inspection and appraisal process. They would attend closing with you and possibly give you a thank you card or even a small gift as a token of their appreciation, because after all, you chose them, right? Then what happens? You move into your new home, the agent cashes their commission check and life moves on.

So is this where your relationship ends with your realtor? In many cases, yes it does. However, you need to start thinking of your realtor as a "wealth of knowledge" that extends well beyond inspections and appraisals. Your real estate agent should have an in depth knowledge of the area they service. They should be a valued resource to you from being able to recommend a car mechanic, or a vet. They should be able to give you the name of "that great little restaurant where the food is great and the prices are even better." They should be able to provide you with the location of the best beaches or family parks. This information shouldn't just stop at the closing table.

Here at the Dietz Team in Palm Harbor-Clearwater, we pride ourselves in continuing our relationships with our clients. We stay in touch with them and enjoy hearing how their families have grown, how that restaurant we recommended has now turned into their favorite gathering place. We love finding out from our mechanics that our clients have started using them as well. The relationship with a typical agent often ends at the closing table. The relationship with a GREAT agent will continue to grow through the years. Just something to keep in mind, the next time you are "interviewing" agents.
