Christmas Tree Lighting Welcomes Santa Claus to Crofton, Maryland
Monday evening, the Crofton Civic Association and Crofton Country Club hosted their annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Christmas party. Since the large evergreen on the Village Green became too large to adorn with lights many years ago, a metal substitute has been the official Crofton Christmas tree. The weather was chilly, but the event drew a sizeable crowd anyway.
Residents gathered outside for the official lighting and Christmas carols were sung by the Elizabeth Ann Seton children’s choir while everyone waited for the illumination.
Once the tree was fully lit, Santa Claus arrived atop a fire truck, waving at the children who were waiting for him. Santa needed the help of his fireman friends to disembark the vehicle, as he is more accustomed to riding in a sleigh and sliding down chimneys.
As the crowd moved indoors, children lined up to sit on Santa’s lap while Pocket Change, a local band, played more holiday music. Jello and Flopsy, two local clowns circulated throughout the crowd, making children laugh, as families worked on crafts and enjoyed the provided cookies and juice.
Both parents and children alike enjoyed this free event. Yet another reason Crofton, Maryland, is a great place to live!
