As we approach the end of 2013, you may be brainstorming ways to boost your marketing and your business for the new year!  If you’ve experienced a surge in your real estate business over the past year, you’ll want to note what worked for you and how you can continue to make those various aspects work in your favor.  On the other hand, if things didn’t go quite as planned as you look back on your goals and how your business did overall, it’s time to change things up!

Creating a business plan is vital for your success in the real estate industry.  And it’s important to note that you’ll need to update it each year!  You want to keep things fresh and keep your past, potential and current clients engaged.  Of course there’s a fine line between trying every trend out there and sticking to what’s worked in the past just because it worked in the past.

We all know that, with continual updates in technology, people are being reached in new ways all the time.  So, how can you keep up with the changes while still maintaining what’s worked for you in the past?  Here are a few tips!

1. Be Aware- While you may not try every new trend that’s out there, it’s important to be aware of what’s happening in the realm of marketing trends, social media and technology.  Sift through what you know won’t work for you and make a list of things that might.  Which leads to the second point...

2. Try New Things- Don’t be afraid to try new things!  Whether it’s finally getting on Twitter or coming up with a great ipad presentation for clients; trying new strategies will keep you on your toes and can give your business the boost it needs.  Don’t be afraid to fail.  If you find something just isn’t working, change it up to make it work for you or move on to the next thing.  You never know what may take off and help take your business to the next level!

3. Put a Fresh Twist on Tried and True Tactics- You may find that your monthly e-newsletter has worked for you year over year or that handing out business cards to nearly everyone you meet has brought in more clients and referrals than anything else.  If that’s the case; keep doing what you’re doing!  You obviously know your client and it’s working to bring in business.  However, putting a fresh twist on these methods can boost their appeal!

Try including clickable links to all your social media sites in your newsletter, or use your business card as promotional material.  You can use the back of your business card to show homes you’ve sold or, if you order them in smaller batches, homes that are currently on the market.

Take time within the next few weeks to think through the past year and come up with a fresh business plan for 2014!
