It's snowing in Salem Oregon today!

Ok, yes, us Oregonians that live in the valley are freaking out over an inch ( or nine depending on where you live) of snow.  But there are a couple of very good reasons why it sends our area into panic mode.

  1. We never get snow! No one knows how to drive in it, and no one is use to seeing it.  It's a big deal.
  2. This is a wet snow, meaning it usually comes down as snow, melts on the roads a bit, refreezes as ice, and then the entire town becomes a skating rink.

So, what do we do?  I for one stay home.   We live on a very steep hill, and I drive an F350 with no weight in the back.  So, I make a fire in the fireplace, drink hot drinks all day and catch up with computer work, phone calls, blogs and reschedule any appointments that would require me to drive in this stuff.

And then...........I go out and take pics of the horses in the snow.  Here is Violet, my riding horse.  She LOVES snow.  As you can see, she plays in it with her lips.

Oregon Friesian likes the snow

Hope everyone is staying warm tonight!

I too live in an area that does not get snow.  If it did snow I too would stay home.  We would not know how to deal with it for sure.

Send it here!  It was 82 degrees today... we can use that snow, even one inch of it.

I like your profile pic!

Love the horse photo.  I apparently also live in an area where we do not get snow...in central Nebraska!!  No snow here...just highs of 4 or 5 degrees.  When you look out it looks like it should be in the 40's or 50's...and then when you step out...Brrr.

Snow is great to PLAY in, but if you have to get on the road, not so much fun. I remember a horrendous spin on back ice on I-5 over the pass between Oregon & California--twirling right in front of an 18-wheeler. I feel lucky to be here!
