In honor of St. Patrick's Day I have a "GREEN" Question

Does "Green" Sell?

Is it important to the consumer that a home be certified as a "green" home?

We have Charlottesville Homes that are "certified" EarthCraft homes and we are considering adding a "green" category to our local MLS.

Agents: Do you currently have this option in your local  MLS?

Is a Green home a better home or is it just better for the environment? I personally feel that a well built and well insulated home may in fact save energy but I also feel strongly that it is truly a better investment.

What are your GREEN Thoughts?

I like that idea Charles.  I will check my MLS and see what it has on it.

Charles - I am going to recommend that our MLS add that category - we don't have it yet - personally, I would rather buy green! GREAT post!!!

Happy St Pat's Day!!!

We haven't figured out green yet.  Big bad trucks still pass me at 90 miles an hour on a 30 mile an street headed to the next red light.

Hi Charles!  As for the 'Green' MLS, we don't have that option here.  However, I am all for energy conservation and frequently bring my thoughts to the forefront of a conversation with my Buyers.  I have been laughed at and, I would venture to say, 90% of the responses to my 'green comments' are:  "That's a crock!" "I'm sick of hearing about green" or the last one, "We're all educated people here--do builders really build homes that are more efficient than they would normally build?  If homeowners are going to waste energy, they're going to waste energy and you DO know that this is all political, don't you?"

It has almost become a topic much like sex, religion and politics which you don't EVER want to discuss with your clients!!

I do not think that we have a "green" category in our MLS either, but there are several real estate brokerages that are promoting this.

Charles - Very interesting that your MLS is considering this added category.  I feel it's a great idea.

That is some great feedback and most seem to thing that a GREEN category is a good idea. We are still kicking around what constitutes a "Green" house because I can see/predict that this will be a mis-used category.... I will keep you posted.
