I've been playing chess since a child, Randy. Years ago I became friends with Col. Edmund B. Emondson, the excutive director of the United States Chess Federation. Col'Edmondson helped me establish chess in my high school and our public library. The Memphis Chess Club was active at that time. He passed away in Kaneohe, Hawaii in 1982. The USCF is now headquartered in Tennessee. I saw Fischer play in 1966 in Memphis in a simul and spent part of the summer of 1972 in New York at the Manhattan Chess Club watching Larry Evans and others annotate the Fischer-Spassky match games. I've played Elliot Winslow, Walter Korn's MCO editor of the King's Indian Defense. I don't play much these days outside of a few friends at the university. I also met George Koltanowski. Keep up the great work.

David - I never met Mr. Edmonson.  He passed away the year I moved to Kaneohe from Chicago.  We have had many chess VIPs since visit Hawaii and play here.

Randy, I love the work you are doing with kids and chess.  It really helps them to learn strategy that applies to many of life's situations.

Chess is a game I have always enjoyed but honestly have not had enough instruction to be really good at it. I am good enough to get myself into trouble if my opponent is strong lol

Patricia - Thank you!

David - I might suggest a good chess book.  "How to Reassess Your Chess" by Jeremy Silman.  He also has a workbook.  The book is a series of lessons, breaking down each part of the game and giving you a good understanding of the strtegies and tactics.  It is an easy read designed to take a beginning player up to a competive level.
